“Is Gary Busey a real judge? Absolutely not. Does he know anything about pet law? Probably not. Can he look into your soul and suss out your spirit animal while delivering a verdict with a trademark Buseyism? You bet your sweet ass (the donkey kind),” the show’s official press release reads. The statement also notes that Busey will be settling disputes between pet owners with a variety of cases, including a wide variety of animals such as “monkeys, goats, birds, dogs, meerkats, turtles, robot raccoons and more.”

Those working on the streaming show are fully embracing the comical nature of the very concept, having some fun with the latest career move for Busey in the press release. “Gary Busey has been preparing for this job his entire life,” the release states. It also reads: “Sure, he starred in Point Break and Lethal Weapon, but did any of his blockbuster films require him to determine whether a cat should have a Viking funeral? Not until now.” It’s hard not to argue with that very logic. Busey may have come a long way from his time playing legendary rocker Buddy Holly in The Buddy Holly Story, and this just may be his most interesting project yet.

Busey is not the only celebrity to step into the courtroom for the next stage of his entertainment career. After hosting his own controversial talk show between 1991 and 2018, Jerry Springer has since begun presiding as a judge in his daytime court show Judge Jerry. Springer’s trademark chants from the crowd repeating his first name are still there, though only for the show’s intro and not during the actual proceedings. The first season proved successful with viewers and a second season has since been ordered with Springer set to decide dozens more court cases. Just a few years ago, who would have ever thought we just might have someone like Gary Busey or Jerry Springer settling our cases in a court of law?
