Very quickly, Dave Bautista became a part of the conversation once it was officially announced that the Gears of War movie is happening at Netflix. On Monday, the streamer revealed that a live-action movie adaptation is now in the works along with an adult animated series. No additional information has yet been revealed, making it a mystery as of now who will be taking the lead in the Gears of War film.
If you were to ask many fans, however, they already have someone in mind. Bautista is someone who’s been very public about his interest in starring in a Gear of War adaptation. At one point, he had even personally pitched the potential movie to Warner Bros., though he failed to get the ball rolling. The wrestler-turned-actor may have given up on ever getting the role, but now that we know the movie is a go, fans are tagging Bautista and Netflix on social media in an effort to unite the two and make his casting finally happen.

“With the movie being announced coming to Netflix I sure hope we see Dave Bautista as Marcus Fenix,” says one fan, echoing many others.
Reacting to the news, another fan tweeted, “Gears of War is finally getting a movie!!It’s literally the perfect game franchise for a movie. The way the story is told and the games are shot they are totally a love letters to 80’s action movies. I hope they get Dave Bautista as Marcus Phoenix. That’s a perfect casting!”
“This is awesome,” writes another fan. “Get Dave Bautista to play Marcus Fenix! I love the gears of war games.”
Dave Bautista Campaigned Hard to Land the Role of Marcus Fenix
Bautista has been vocal about his wish to star in Gears of War. For years, he has spoken about his efforts to get the film made so he can star, but it’s a project that could not seem to make its way out of development hell. In 2019, Bautista responded to a fan on Twitter asking if Hollywood was listening to this perfect suggestion. He revealed that he’s done all he possibly could for the adaptation but that he appeared to be out of luck.
“They’re listening. And they could give AF!” the Guardians of the Galaxy star wrote. “But thank you for the support. Believe me when I say I’ve tried everything to make this happen.”
It’s not yet clear when the Gears of War movie will be released on Netflix. The same can also be said for the adult animated series. No cast members have yet been announced for either. You can see some more of the social media posts calling for Bautista to be cast in the film below.
