Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul star Giancarlo Esposito has offered further details regarding his meetings with Marvel Studios. During a recent appearance at Fan Expo Boston (via ComicBook.com’s Liam Crowley), the actor heaped praise on the hugely popular studio before revealing that he did almost join the MCU already in the Disney+ series, Loki.

Esposito certainly sounds determined to find the right role for himself in the MCU, with the actor carefully approaching his one shot at joining the franchise. According to Marvel fans, there are several major Marvel characters that Esposito would be perfect for, including Doctor Doom, Magneto, and Galactus. While many expect to eventually see him enter as the villain of the piece, Esposito has other ideas in mind…

“In the Marvel Universe if you do something in television, one character, you can’t switch and play a different character. So, out of that meeting, which was really wonderful, I had some interest in doing something with them which they’ve since done, I think it was Loki at that time, and someone else has done Loki, that’s great, in television and I’d like to be invited to the table to do something in film because I have a big persona and I’ve been in the television world for a while and I’ve still got some movies each year.”

While Giancarlo Esposito has become known for expertly bringing various villains to life in the likes of The Mandalorian, The Boys, and Breaking Bad, the actor really wants to switch sides should he ever join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. More specifically, Esposito has expressed his desire to lead the X-Men as Professor Xavier, a role previously portrayed by Patrick Stewart on the big screen.

During his appearance at Fan Expo Boston, the Better Call Saul star even went on to explain how he would portray Professor X should he ever be given the opportunity. “I’d play that character with force, grace, and a calm,” he said. “Someone who controls the chaos but who also has the ability to uplift and inspire.”

Marvel fans have already expressed their feelings about Esposito joining the X-Men as Xavier, and the response so far has been a great, big “yes, please!” It is not yet known what Marvel plans to do with the X-Men, but rumors persist that the reboot will go by a different name.

For now, Esposito will continue his reign as the best onscreen villain of the hour in both The Mandalorian Season 3, which is scheduled to premiere in February 2023, and The Boys Season 4, which has now entered production.
