While we have seen Giancarlo Esposito playing many antagonist roles, but it seems like his character from The Boys is the one who stands out for the actor as the most frightening of them all. In the first three seasons, Esposito has played Stan Edgar, introduced as the head of Vought International. He plays an integral role in developing a world of superheroes by literally creating them with a special drug called Compound V.
In a new interview with GQ, Esposito touched on his role in The Boys and explained why he considers the character to be so scary. He explains how being a “company man” has only made him a scarier character compared to people like Moff Gideon and Gus Fring. Esposito also feels that the way Stan shows no fear whatsoever toward Homelander while pretty much everyone else does also helps make him frightening. From the interview:

Esposito went on to further speak about the relationship between Stan Edgar and Homelander (Antony Starr). He points out how Stan is aware of Homelander’s need for validation from him and has always used that to his advantage. Because while Homelander might be the planet’s most powerful being, he still came into the world as a human and has that need to be validated.
The fourth season of The Boys doesn’t yet have a premiere date, and while Esposito isn’t officially confirmed to make an appearance as Stan Edgar, the actor has teased that fans just might see him in season 4.
