The official premiere date for the anticipated second season of Ginny & Georgia has been released. Back in February 2021, the first season of the series premiered on Netflix to great success, drawing 52 million subscribers to tune in during its first month. Netflix officially renewed the series for season 2 in April 2021, though it has since been unclear as to when fans can expect to watch the new episodes. On Wednesday, it was announced that season 2 is set to debut on January 5, 2023.

Per Netflix, the following synopsis for season 2 has also been released:

Sarah Lampert created the series, while Debra J. Fisher (Alias, Criminal Minds, Being Mary Jane) serves as showrunner. Fisher also executive produces alongside Lampert, writer Angela Nissel, and director James Genn. Jeff Tahler, Jenny Daly, Holly Hines, Daniel March, Lance Samuels, Daniel Iron, and Armand Leo. Elena Blekhter co-executive produces. Other directors include Audrey Cummings, Daniskha Esterhazy, Sharon Lewis, and Rose Troche.

Ginny & Georgia Begins Two Weeks After the Season 1 Finale

The second season picks up two weeks after the events of season 1. In a new interview (via Netflix’s Tudum), Lampert teased what’s to come in the second season, noting that the characters will still be reeling from the effects of that “juicy cliffhanger” that concluded season 1.

“We spent all of season 1 breaking these characters down and putting them in certain places,” Lampert explained. “So, we wanted to honor that by picking up season 2 just two weeks later. We jumped right back into where we emotionally left everyone at the end of season 1.”

On the progression of Ginny and Georgia’s relationship, Fisher adds, “Georgia is such a mama bear and so protective of her children, [but] also simultaneously [has] this indignation of, ‘Look what I would do for you. These are the lengths I will go to protect you, and now, once you see the inner me, you leave?!’ Georgia is p*ssed for better or worse.”

Season 2 of Ginny & Georgia will premiere on Netflix on Jan. 5, 2023. You can stream the first season now.
