Knives Out was a massive success when it arrived in theaters in 2019. The whodunit, directed and written by Rian Johnson, was praised for its intricate storytelling and magnificent cast, receiving an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay. In addition, the film made a box office splash, grossing $311 million worldwide against a $40 million budget. Netflix would seize the rights to two additional sequels for a hefty $400 million price tag, leaving the opportunity for a theatrical release in the air. However, in a twist only Johnson could come up with, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery will now release in cinemas for one week.

The release, dubbed a “sneak preview event,” will give audiences their first chance to see Daniel Craig return as detective Benoit Blanc alongside another fantastic cast. When Will Glass Onion Arrive in Theaters?
Netflix
Glass Onion is presenting a big opportunity to theaters, and for the first time, all three major cinema chains will release a Netflix title. Deadline broke the news, saying 600 theaters in the U.S. and Canada will receive the sneak preview run. Glass Onion will play for one week, from Nov. 23-29. After it finishes its theatrical run with AMC, Regal, and Cinemark, Glass Onion will debut worldwide on Netflix on Dec. 23.
Director Rian Johnson shared a statement regarding the news and his excitement to premiere in theaters. “I’m over the moon that Netflix has worked with AMC, Regal and Cinemark to get Glass Onion in theaters for this one-of-a-kind sneak preview. These movies are made to thrill audiences, and I can’t wait to feel the energy of the crowd as they experience Glass Onion. Between this and the release on Netflix in December, I’m excited that audiences around the world will be able to enjoy the film!”
Johnson has previously expressed his hopes to see Glass Onion in theaters, and it seems the director is getting his wish, if only for one week. So fans can try and solve the puzzle when Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery arrives in theaters on Nov. 23 or Netflix on Dec. 23.
