Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery has been a big hit since its release on Netflix last week. The film debuted to high viewership, and better yet for Rian Johnson and Co., it achieved very strong reviews as well. Over at Rotten Tomatoes, which aggregates reviews from professional critics to rank movies with a critical score on the “Tomatometer,” Glass Onion sits with a cool 94% Certified Fresh rating. The audience score is just about even with the Tomatometer, as that ranks high as well at 93% Fresh.

“Glass Onion takes audiences on the same journey as Blanc himself, misdirecting us beautifully and making you intentionally overthink the story… when at heart, the nature of this particular mystery is something far more ridiculous,” Jack Bottomley of Starburst says in his 5-star review.

Asher Luberto of L.A. Weekly adds, “Glass Onion is one of the great whodunnits, a scintillating piece of work that includes all the best aspects of the genre: death, mystery, comedy and revenge.”

“Johnson (and Netflix) have a hit on their hands and lucky for us, there are two more in the pike,” Pamela Powell of Reel Honest Reviews, also notes, the sequel having her in anticipation of the follow-up films. “On a cold winter’s night, there’s nothing better to warm your heart than a good old-fashioned murder mystery filled with intrigue and laughter.”

The audience reviews are also glowing for the most part, with one person named Diane writing, “We loved it. Kept us guessing. Love the comic relief. You will so enjoy this movie. Daniel Craig did a get job as the detective.”

“Fantastic! Full of twists and subversions and tons of pieces that fall into place,” says someone else. “Utterly hilarious and compelling with some great performances. Even better than the first!!”

Glass Onion Has Drawn Some High Praise

     Netflix

This is all a good sign for Netflix, as the streamer shelled out some big bucks for Knives Out 2 to have as their exclusive. Following the success of the original Knives Out, director Rian Johnson signed a lucrative deal to develop another two movies featuring Daniel Craig as Detective Benoit Blanc. Seeing the second film performing so well upon its release may help convince Netflix they made the right call in ordering not just one more movie, but two.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery was written and directed by Rian Johnson. The film boasts an ensemble cast that includes Daniel Craig, Edward Norton, Janelle Monae, Leslie Odom Jr., Kathryn Hahn, Jessica Henwick, Madelyn Cline, Kate Hudson, and Dave Bautista.
