Costner, who plays family patriarch John Dutton in the hit Paramount+ series Yellowstone, was competing in the category against Jeff Bridges in The Old Man, Diego Luna in Andor, Bob Odenkirk in Better Call Saul, and Adam Scott in Severance.
“Nobody’s sadder than us that we can’t be there at the Golden Globes,” said the 67-year-old actor who was nominated for the award for best actor in a drama series. He posted a Twitter video explaining why he and his wife Christine Baumgarter will not be attending the event. Costner continued by saying, “Chris had a beautiful dress, I was looking forward to walking down the red carpet with her.”

Strong rainstorms that pummeled Southern California for the previous 48 hours led to significant flooding in some regions, according to NBC News, who cited, “the severe weather that has turned roads into rivers, spurred rockfalls and mudslides and forced thousands from their homes.” On Monday, a mandatory evacuation was issued for the Santa Barbara County coastal hamlet of Montecito, which is home to a number of famous people, including Prince Harry, Ellen DeGeneres, and Oprah Winfrey. According to updated local regulations, Costner noted his family made the decision to shelter in place.
