Betty White will no longer be here for her 100th birthday after her passing on New Year’s Eve, but the celebrations of the Golden Girls star have nevertheless continued. On Jan. 17, the day the late comedy icon would have turned 100, a special surprise will be in store for fans who put her name into Google’s search bar. Per Variety, searching White’s name will prompt Google to fill the screen with rose pedals, a reference to White’s Golden Girls character Rose Nylund.
This animated Easter egg also includes the message, “Thank you for being a friend.” That’s another direct reference to The Golden Girls as it was the theme song of the classic sitcom. The search Easter egg will go live on Google on Jan. 17 at 12 a.m. GMT.

White was planning to celebrate her 100th birthday along with her fans on Jan. 17, but she passed away on Dec. 31. It was later determined that the actress had suffered a stroke six days before her death, leading to her passing. Just a few days before that, White had participated in an interview for a documentary that’s coming to theaters on Jan. 17 as well. It is the final footage that was taken of the actress.
Betty White Will Bid Her Fans Farewell in Theatrical Celebration
Fathom Events is hosting a theatrical celebration for Betty White. It was originally conceived as a birthday celebration, but after White’s death, some edits had to be made to reflect her passing. It features a documentary that compiles some clips of throughout White’s career along with her celebrity friends paying tribute by sharing White memories. White herself gave her final interview for the doc and she addresses her fans in a touching way.
“In one of the interviews, Betty talked about how she felt she was your favorite aunt that was kindly invited into your living room once a week, whether she was on Hot in Cleveland or The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” Boettcher told The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s different than a movie star, she always said, where you go to a movie theater, and you see them on a big screen, and they’re untouchable. In the living room, you’re an intimate family member… Because of that privilege she had, she always wanted to make herself approachable to her fans.”
He added: “Betty shot a tribute to her fans on Dec. 20, which will be in the film. It was her idea to do this. She said, ‘I want my fans to know this.’ We’ve been asked to share it. We’ve been asked to put it on social media. The only place we thought was right was putting it in the film and sharing it with her friends, family and fans who are going to be there.”
That celebration will be screening in theaters for one day only on Jan. 17, Betty White’s birthday. For tickets and more information, you can visit the official website for Fathom Events.
