Quaid is one of many celebrities taking this time to pay tribute to Lewis. Horror mastermind Stephen King also honored the singer with a separate post on Twitter that reads, “RIP Jerry Lee Lewis. The Killer has gone. He could play that piano, boy. Think I gotta play me some Lewis Boogie.”

Shudder’s The Last Drive-In host Joe Bob Briggs also shared a story about something that happened on the set of Great Balls of Fire!.

“In 1988 JLL came to the set of his biopic and expressed how silly we all were, including me, the guy playing the DJ who made him famous,” Briggs said. “Dennis Quaid said, ‘You would think he would be afraid to at least not p*ss ME off.’ But that was him: the anti-Elvis.”

On Wednesday, it was falsely reported that Lewis had died, but his passing would come on Friday. Reportedly, Lewis died with his wife, Judith, by his side at his Mississippi home. An obituary penned by his biographer, Rick Bragg, stated that Lewis was not afraid of death and that he was now no longer suffering.

“Lewis suffered through the last years of his life from various illnesses and injuries that, his physicians have often said, should have taken him decades ago,” the obituary read. “He told (Judith), in his final days, that he welcomed the hereafter, and that he was not afraid.”

Of course, there are many names from the music world also honoring Lewis. Fellow pianist and singer Elton John, who was also the subject of a biopic about his life called Rocketman, posted an image to Twitter of the two together. John also wrote a message of praise for his late friend.

“Without Jerry Lee Lewis, I wouldn’t have become who I am today,” John said. “He was groundbreaking and exciting, and he pulverized the piano. A brilliant singer too. Thank you for your trailblazing inspiration and all the rock ‘n’ roll memories.”

Meanwhile, Ringo Starr of The Beatles also tweeted, “God bless Jerry lee Lewis peace and love to all his family Ringo.”
