Netflix is now streaming new episodes of The Great British Baking Show weekly. The show is a breath of fresh air after a long hiatus from streaming. 2021’s series was bittersweet as it was filmed entirely in strict lockdown and was a delight to viewers with a particularly close and fun roster of talented contestants. This year viewers are excited to see more of this year’s entirely fresh batch of contestants and to grow more and more invested, as we always do as the weeks go by!
The Great British Baking Show is one of the only weekly competition shows that proves you don’t need glitz and glamour, major changes every year, or high-stakes drama. You just need some great bakers, funny hosts, and discerning judges in a lovely tent in a pretty English field with many delicious pastries and baked dishes.

Bread Week: Episode 3 Recap
Netflix
Episode 3 of The Great British Baking Show was break week, which also happens to be the infamous Paul Hollywood’s favorite week in the tent. For the signature challenges, bakers were asked to make two serving-sized pizzas. James took a big risk with his nutty flower type, Kevin made a figgy pizza in a big twist, and Noel kindly assured everyone that if it went wrong, they still had time to order a pizza.
All the contestants’ finished products comprised a beautiful multicultural array of unique pizzas. However, it is fair to say that there was way too much pineapple for some people’s comfort. The judges’ favorites were James’ ham and pineapple pizza, Maxy’s rich rosemary lamb pizza, Sandro’s Texas barbecue-themed and heart-shaped pizza, and Carole’s super cheesy pizza.
The technical challenge was a doozy during the episode, with Maxy ranking second and Janusz ranking first place. The show-stopper challenge saw the judges making a savory Swedish celebration cake that would look like a cake but taste like a sandwich. The contestants each made a beautiful array of gorgeous bread sandwich cakes with unique and gorgeous decorations. Janusz’s fish and chips cake impressed the judges, while Carole’s fish cake was liked on the outside.
The judges enjoyed James’ panda but thought the outside was a bit wonky and the inside not quite there. Kevin’s cucumber fisherman was stunning, but the bread was over-baked. Maxy’s bread fillings were delicious, and the two-bread type approach she took almost hit the mark. Syabira’s cake, by far, was the favorite, both in appearance, flavor, and bake quality. Sandro’s, though there was too much barbecue flavor, also impressed the judges. Dawn’s bake was not liked at all.
The result was that Janusz won star baker for the week, and nobody was sent home due to the controversial absence of Rebs and Abdul to illness. This decision was definitely fair, and just considering that two bakers weren’t able to participate, it will lead to the judges having to send two bakers home in one episode once Abdul and Rebs return.
It’s sure to be a fun episode, and it certainly sounds like it will test the bakers’ metal and push them to new heights. But will it be the episode in which the judges will let go of two bakers in the same episode?
The Great British Baking Show 2022: Winner Predictions
Syabira, in particular, is very near the top. Her work is a slam dunk every week, and she brings passion and originality to each bake. Janusz has also impressed the judges with nearly every bake, and his work is almost always pristine and jam-packed full of originality. Sandro, too, has won the judges’ hearts with his precision and powerful flavors. He and Maxy have won star baker previously. Maxy is a talented baker who has come out at or close to the top each week. The news, however, is focusing on Rebs and Abdul’s forced absence.
It’s not known if they contracted Covid or a cold, but their absence has caused a social media stir as some fans are not happy with the decision to have an episode without them. However, it is important to note that sticking to production time and scheduling is important for the crew’s functioning and the network’s capabilities. Every entertainment project should save space for illness and take appropriate precautions to protect the other contestants.
