After we reported that director Guillermo del Toro was no longer directing The Hobbit, speculation has run rampant about what project he will take on next, especially after a story hit about the director working on a new version of Van Helsing. Today, del Toro himself released a statement to the fan site DelToroFilms.com where he stated he will announce his latest project at this year’s Comic-Con. Here’s the filmmaker’s full statement below.

As always, we’ll be out in full force at the San Diego Comic-Con this year, so be sure to keep an eye out for any announcement regarding Guillermo del Toro’s slate of projects as soon as we have more information.

“Van Helsing(writing and producing) is still in talks and not quite certain. Even then, I would like to share my plans only at COMICON. I am taking it slowly and marking very, very carefully the calendar of projects that I will be involved as producer, writer, etc I will not announce the project I intend to direct until then. I am very happy to say that all the projects and partnerships being considered are both quite surprising and, I hope, powerful. Much as I want, I cannot say much more at this time but I anxiously await to share these with you. I will be shopping on the floor in San DIego for several days. See you there!!
