Director and screenwriter Guy Ritchie recently announced the filming date of his upcoming World War II spy thriller, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. According to Collider, Ritchie would begin filming the movie in February of next year.

Several weeks ago, it was announced that Henry Cavill and Eiza González were set to star, with Cavill playing the leader of the spy organization and González portraying a military sniper. This isn’t the first time Ritchie has worked with Cavill, with the two collaborating on the 2015 film The Man from U.N.C.L.E., which is also a spy movie.

Like most World War II films, it will be based on a true account of the conflict, covering an intelligence agency made by Winston Churchill and Ian Fleming. Fleming was also the author of the original James Bond books, which were inspired by his work with Britain’s Naval Intelligence Division during World War II.

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare isn’t the only project coming from Guy Ritchie. He’s also directing Aladdin 2, having done the same for the first film. The sequel is currently in pre-production, and Ritchie recently announced he’d like to bring back Will Smith for the movie, despite the controversy surrounding the actor after he slapped Chris Rock at the Academy Awards earlier this year. Smith has since apologized profusely, and Ritchie affirms that “working with [Smith] was one of the most wonderful, great experiences I’ve ever had.” However, the decision to recast the actor will ultimately land on Disney.

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is not to be confused with Richie’s 2019 film The Gentlemen, which starred Matthew McConaughey as an American cannabis salesman looking to expand his business in England. It was a critical and commercial success, which spurred a spin-off series. The show will be available on Netflix, with Ritchie set to direct the first two episodes in addition to serving as executive producer and co-writer.

While Ritchie initially gained fame for his unorthodox comedy, Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels, he is no stranger to action flicks, having directed the 2009 film Sherlock Holmes and its sequel, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. He’s also made a few spy films, including Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, which has been completed for a while now but is yet to be released for unknown reasons.

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare will be directed and written by Guy Ritchie, starring Henry Cavill and Eiza González. It will be produced by Paramount Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer films. No release date has been given, but filming will begin in February 2023.
