Halloween Ends was not met with the kindest reviews upon its release, but what’s certain is that the film did get a lot of people watching. Per Variety, the sequel has managed to rank in the streaming top 10 list on Nielsen’s rankings for the week of Oct. 10 through Oct. 16, landing at No. 8 on the overall list. The film, which debuted on Oct. 14, was released both in theaters and on NBCUniversal’s streaming service Peacock with more than 717 million minutes streamed on the latter within its first three days. When limiting that list to movies only, then Halloween Ends sits at No. 1.

It was previously announced that Halloween Ends had also set the biggest debut for Peacock as well. Clearly, there were many people watching the movie at home, and to a certain extent, that may have affected ticket sales. Even so, Halloween Ends wasn’t a total dud at the box office, as it grossed more than $40.1 million with its opening weekend despite the Peacock availability.

Ryan Murphy is dominating the top of Nielsen’s streaming list thanks to his latest true crime offerings at Netflix. The Watcher topped the streaming list for that week while DAHMER - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story still ranks high at No. 3. In between the two at No. 2 is Prime Video’s Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, while HBO Max’s House of the Dragon and Netflix’s The Blacklist round out the top 5. Netflix also makes up the rest of the list with The Midnight Club, Cocomelon, Luckiest Girl Alive, and NCIS.

Halloween Ends Drew High Viewership Despite Backlash

Negative reviews about the film didn’t seem to stop too many people from watching Halloween Ends on Peacock. The film was criticized by many fans for some of the creative directions taken with the story, going so far also to have fans launching a petition to remake the film with a different script. Meanwhile, there have been other friends offering praise to director David Gordon Green for doing something “different” with this Halloween story. In any case, this kind of division is nothing new for the franchise, which has already seen its share of polarizing sequels.

Even if some fans were leery heading into the film considering the reviews, there was certainly a big interest held by many in seeing what’s been hyped as the final battle between Laurie Strode and Michael Myers. There are no plans to make any sequels to Halloween Ends, which has a pretty definitive conclusion, and it really seems like we’ve seen the last of Jamie Lee Curtis’s Laurie Strode with this film. Considering how popular the Halloween franchise remains, there were naturally many, many people quite curious to see how things ended.
