After years of development struggle, fans of the popular video game Halo can finally rejoice as the moment they have been so patiently and eagerly waiting for has finally arrived. The TV series adaptation is on its way.
The news of it getting adapted into a movie or TV series was first announced back in 2013 with Steven Spielberg on board as an executive producer. After that, the production was moved to Showtime. The network ordered a 10-episode season and was in development for about four years until June 28, 2018. Then, things got stalled, which worried fans about the show’s future. Thankfully, this time it’s confirmed that the Halo TV series is here, as we finally got the trailer.
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
Halo represents Master Chief’s first appearance in a show since Forward Unto Dawn back in 2012. This is also the first time the video game as a franchise has been attached to a big-budget TV production.
There aren’t a lot of details about the show since the trailer dropped, and it remains pretty scarce. That said, we do have some information about other details for the upcoming series. Here’s everything we know about the Halo TV series so far!
All We Know: Plot
Paramount+
As mentioned, not much has been revealed about the storyline. That said, the little we do know gives us a rough idea of what the storyline will possibly be like. Based on the pieces of information that have come out so far along with the trailer, it’s pretty clear that the Halo TV series will majorly focus on Cortana and Master Chief, along with UNSC and Spartan allies. They continue to battle Covenant Empire, who’s seeking to wipe out the whole of humanity during the Human-Covenant War.
UNSC’s high-ranking leaders appear to be suspicious of Master Chief and aren’t sure whether they should trust him or not. This suggests that there could be a rift between the Spartan and his commanders somewhere in the storyline.
One of the characters that intrigued us was Makee, a human woman raised by the Covenant who seems to be working for them. In the trailer, you see her unleashing Lekgolo worms, one of the Covenant’s alien species, on the UNSC soldiers while she argues that humanity should surrender to the Covenant.
The trailer also implies that at some point in the TV series, the plot pivots to a Halo ring, one of the installations used thousands of years ago by Forerunners. The Forerunners are an ancient alien species that kill most life in the galaxy to stop Flood, a ruthless parasite. From what we’ve seen in the games, Master Chief destroys the first Halo ring he finds to prevent the Covenants from controlling it. However, in the show, it looks as if the Chief wants to get his hands on a Halo ring to win against the Covenant. That said, this bit is quite unclear, as we won’t know until the show comes out whether the Ring works in the same way it did in the novels and games.
Something worth noting is that the Halo TV series will take place in a “Silver Timeline.” This is an alternate canon that is similar to the core timeline of the novels and games but different enough that the creators can narrate a story they have in mind without the events of the main timeline hindering them.
All We Know: Cast
The showrunners have officially announced who will be a part of the Halo TV series. Cast includes Pablo Schreiber as Master Chief Petty Officer John-117, Jen Taylor as Cortana, and Charlie Murphy as Makee.
We will also see Shabana Azmi as Admiral Margaret Parangosky, Natascha McElhone as Dr. Catherine Elizabeth Halsey, Olive Gray as Miranda Keyes, Danny Sapani as Captain Jacob Keyes, Bokeem Woodbine as Soren-066, Bentley Kalu as Vannak-134, Yerin Ha as Kwan Ha Boo, Natasha Culzac as Riz-028, and Kate Kennedy as Kai-125.
Release Date & Where to Watch
The trailer for the Halo TV series, which debuted at the AFC Championship football game’s halftime, revealed that the series is set to premiere on March 24, 2022. Moreover, it looks like we can watch this TV series exclusively on Paramount+ when it releases. If you are a Halo fan, be prepared to sign up for this streaming service if you haven’t already.
As of now, the number of ordered episodes has not been confirmed so far. Initially, the show was going to have ten episodes, but it fell to nine when Otto Bathurst took over after Rupert Wyatt’s departure in 2018. What is definitely confirmed is that season 2 has already been greenlit ahead of the series premiere.
