Indiana Jones star Harrison Ford has responded to the idea that he will pass the baton on to someone else in the upcoming sequel, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. There have been rumors circulating for some time that Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny will see Ford hand the franchise to another character, with reports claiming that Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s character Helena will become the lead. Now, speaking with Deadline, Ford says the word “no” when asked if this is the case…but also remains somewhat cagey.

Of course, Harrison Ford is likely being careful not to avoid spoilers. But while his answer does include a dismissal of the idea that he will pass the baton, it is unlikely to stop the rumors entirely. Something that Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny director James Mangold has attempted to do himself many times…

“No, I’m just telling a story, telling a story. You’ll see, you’ll see. I hope you like it.”

“One more time. No one is ’taking over’ or replacing Indy or donning his hat nor is he being ’erased’ thru some contrivance- and he never was, not not in any cut or script – but trolls will troll – that’s how they get their clicks,” Mangold previously said on social media following reports of test screenings of the sequel being recieved badly. “And please don’t exhaust me pointing out how once in a while a troll is ‘right.’ Even a blind squirrel finds a nut now & then. All one has to do is look at set photos & interviews & u get enough info to make wild guesses about a movie plot.”

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny Finds Indy Once Again Battling the Nazis

Thanks to the recent release of the first trailer for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, we now have a much better idea of what Harrison Ford’s final adventure will involve. Dropping audiences in 1969, American archeologist and adventurer Indiana Jones is now living against the backdrop of the Space Race. But Jones is uneasy over the fact that the U.S. Government has recruited former Nazis to help beat the Soviet Union in the competition to make it to space. His goddaughter, Helena, accompanies him on his journey, with the pair attempting to stop Jürgen Voller, a NASA member and ex-Nazi involved with the moon-landing program, who wishes to make the world into a better place as he sees fit.

Directed by James Mangold (Ford v Ferrari, Logan), Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny will see Harrison Ford reprise the title role for the last time. Starring alongside him are Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag), Antonio Banderas (Uncharted, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish), John Rhys-Davies (Raiders of the Lost Ark), Shaunette Renee Wilson (Black Panther), Thomas Kretschmann (King Kong), Toby Jones (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom), Boyd Holbrook (Logan), Oliver Richters (Black Widow), Ethann Isidore (Mortel) and Mads Mikkelsen (Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore).

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is scheduled for release theatrically in the United States on June 30, 2023, by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
