5 More Time to Flesh Out the Backstories

Prisoner of Azkaban, Order of the Phoenix, and Deathly Hallows Part 2 reveal some elements about the young Marauders, Lily, and Snape. Harry, Ron, and Hermione are shocked to discover that Sirius Black was innocent and a long-time best friend of Professor Remus Lupin and James Potter. At the same time, Ron’s pet rat, Scabbers, had been the traitor Peter Pettigrew. Order of the Phoenix shows short moments from Snape’s time as a student. Deathly Hallows Part 2 is the closest, with a montage of moments dedicated to Snape’s past. However, it only shows Snape’s side of the story, and there is more to it.

By the time Harry Potter begins, there is an entire world of events that have happened during the Marauders Era. How did Lily and Petunia’s relationship dissolve into the strained dynamic it became? How did Snape get involved in the Dark Arts? When and why did the Marauders start to mature? These characters played vital roles in the events ingrained in the franchise. Unfortunately, the Harry Potter movies did not have the chance to dive into them as the films centered around Harry’s story. However, a Marauders spinoff could fill in the blanks of what life had been like for the Marauders, Lily, and Snape growing up and show how their backgrounds helped them become the people they became when they were introduced in Harry’s life.

4 It is a Story Fans Have Wanted to See

Although catering to fan service may not always be the way to choose what story to tell, it will undoubtedly bring attention. Readers and viewers appreciated the taste they got of these dynamics in the books and movies. However, if Hollywood wants to continue its trend of making reboots, remakes, sequels, and spinoffs, then it could not hurt to dive into an untold story, even if everyone knows the ending going in. Hogwarts is a seven-year school; it does not necessarily have to be a movie franchise. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child took its spinoff sequel to the Broadway stage. A Marauders’ spinoff could be a television or streaming series, giving it more space and time to tell stories and develop character growth.

3 Insight Into James Potter And Severus Snape’s Rivalry

It was no secret that James Potter and Severus Snape hated each other. They did not get along from the moment they met, and their relationship only got worse as time went on. At first, James and his friends took pleasure in bullying Snape because he was in Slytherin. However, as they grew older and Voldemort rose to power, Snape began getting involved in the Dark Arts while James stayed on the light side of the war. Although their relationships with Lily likely played a role in their thoughts, feelings, and actions toward each other, that could not have been the only factor that anchored their hatred. However, although Snape insists James was always a bully toward him, which may be true, Snape was not the constant victim he saw himself as. Snape was learning and creating dark magic spells and was more than capable of defending himself.

2 Lily Evans and Severus Snape’s Friendship Demise

Lily and Snape’s friendship — a secret Alan Rickman knew before anyone — ended abruptly when he uttered the word “mudblood” at her. Lily had only been trying to help Snape by telling James to back off. However, rather than accept her help, Snape grows angry and destroys their friendship with the poorly chosen word. But, although that was the final straw, it seems that other issues were bubbling beneath the surface. When Snape apologizes to Lily, she reminds him that he has called other Muggleborns such a word, and how is she different from them?

If Lily was aware of this, perhaps other Gryffindors had warned her of Snape’s actions if they knew she was friends with him. Lily and Snape’s friendship ending resulted in Snape diving even further toward the Dark Arts. However, going into Lily’s side of things could also show her perspective of her friendship with Snape. The Harry Potter franchise spends more time on Snape’s memories and feelings toward events and less on how Lily perceives them. A spinoff would give her side of the story more agency.

If there was one friendship that could be just as exciting as Harry, Ron, and Hermione in the wizarding world, it was James, Sirius, Remus, and Peter. The Marauders were pranking legends at Hogwarts and had created the Marauders Map that showed the location of everyone in the castle. But their friendship was not all fun and games. Remus hid the truth about being a werewolf, but when and how did the other boys discover the truth? They became animagi to help Remus through his transformations, but how did it initially go when Remus had to deal with his closest friends knowing his deepest secret? When exactly did Peter betray his closest friends? The Marauders were more than just pranksters at Hogwarts or bullies to Snape. They had things going on as well and obstacles to overcome.
