Though The Batman has only just hit screens following several delays and a lot of patiently waiting, talk has already turned to what we can expect from a sequel. While speaking with Vanity Fair, star Robert Pattinson revealed the villains he hopes to see, with the actor once again asserting his desire to see The Dark Knight take on the infamous Court of Owls.
Not only does Pattinson hope to face off with the Court of Owls, he even states that the villains will “probably” be in The Batman 2. Could the actor have “pulled a Tom Holland” and let something slip about the sequel that he shouldn’t have?
“I was definitely thinking Court of Owls is probably gonna be in the sequel. It definitely seems like– I mean, I am literally just guessing, I just keep saying it.”
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
Created by writer Scott Snyder and artist Greg Capullo for DC Comics back in 2011, The Court of Owls is an organized crime group and secret society of wealthy Gothamites. Going back centuries, The Court of Owls has manipulated the citizens of Gotham for their own gain, with their dark history and evil plans slowly uncovered by Batman. The Court of Owls brought Batman to the brink and has since become one of the most beloved villains in the character’s rogue’s gallery.
While The Batman reintroduces several classic bad guys such as The Penguin and The Riddler, The Court of Owls have never been on the big screen and would give director Matt Reeves and star Robert Pattinson ample opportunity to tell a story not seen by wider audiences and separate themselves further from previous live-action Batman endeavors.
With The Batman dealing with the crime from the top-down and the influence of the elite social sector over Gotham City, there is no doubt that The Court of Owls would make the perfect villains in a follow-up.
The Batman Finally Hits Theaters
Warner Bros. Pictures, DC Films
Following a series of delays, The Batman will finally hit theaters from March 4. The movie will introduce a version of the DC icon two years into his vendetta. Stalking the streets as the Batman, striking fear into the hearts of criminals, has led Bruce Wayne deep into the shadows of Gotham City. But when a killer named The Riddler begins targeting Gotham’s elite with a series of sadistic machinations, a trail of cryptic clues will send the World’s Greatest Detective on an investigation into the underworld.
As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator’s plans becomes clear, Batman must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit, and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued Gotham City.
Directed by Matt Reeves, who wrote the screenplay with Peter Craig, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson, Zoë Kravitz, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright, John Turturro, Peter Sarsgaard, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell. The Batman has been met with rave reviews, and currently sits at 85% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 271 reviews.
