The official trailer for He-Man and the Masters of the Universe season 3 has arrived. At San Diego Comic-Con, series creator Kevin Smith was on hand to debut the new trailer at Mattel’s Masters of the Universe (MOTU) 40th Anniversary Fan Panel. The video is now available to watch online and you can check it out below.

Smith hosted the panel, which also included interviews with various stars from the Masters of the Universe franchise’s history. That includes talent and creators from each era, spanning Toys, Film, TV, and Publishing, such as Dolph Lundgren, Tiffany Smith, Rob David, and Pixel Dan.

A big surprise was also revealed during the panel, as Star Trek legend William Shatner joined Smith on stage to reveal that he is now part of the He-Man: Masters of the Universe: Revolution voice cast. The two did not name which character Shatner would be portraying, but Smith spoke about how he wound up directing the iconic actor for the series.

“Kevin, in a moment, you will have the honor of directing me,” Shatner told the filmmaker.

Smith retorted, “It took Captain Kirk to shut up Silent Bob.”

“We got lucky this season,” Smith also said of Shatner’s involvement, going on to mentioning the actor’s real-life outer space trip. “We got an icon, another icon, to join us on Masters of the Universe and take the trip with us to Eternia. As we all know, Masters takes place on Eternia, a planet at the center of the universe far off in space. We actually got a guy who went to space.”

“After Revelation comes REVOLUTION!” Smith previously announced about the new season. “I’m ecstatic to be making more Masters with Mattel and Powerhouse Animation for Netflix! Big thanks to everyone who streamed our show last summer! You gave us the Power to go back to Grayskull for another epic Eternian adventure!”

The series, with its second season dubbed Revelation, serves as a follow-up to the original 1980s series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. It features a star-studded voice cast that includes Chris Wood, Mark Hamill, Liam Cunningham, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Lena Headey, Diedrich Bader, Alicia Silverstone, Stephen Root, Kevin Conroy, Henry Rollins, Jason Mewes, Alan Oppenheimer, Justin Long, Tony Todd, Cree Summer, Method Man, Danny Trejo, Kevin Michael Richardson, and Dennis Haysbert.

“You literally just mentioned two names we tried to shoehorn into our story,” Smith previously told Thrillist on who might appear in the new season. “We were like, ‘All right, what if we did this?’ But it turned out we were like, ‘If we get to do a season 2, based on what we seeded in season 1, Mekaneck will be a very useful character there.’ And same thing with Granamyr as well. But it’s an embarrassment of riches with Masters of the Universe because the bench is so deep. I’m sure by the end of Revelation, there will be people who are mad at us, not because of anything we did the story, but because we didn’t include their favorite figure.”

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe season 3 starts streaming on Aug. 18, 2022.
