It almost seems incredulous to think that in a time when superhero movies are the biggest cinematic hits and fantasy TV shows are taking over streaming platforms with big casts and bigger budgets anyone having a hobby collecting Warhammer miniature figures would been seen as anything other than the coolest thing in the world. However some fans of Henry Cavill were not impressed at chat show host Graham Norton’s attitude to the revelation by The Witcher’s lead actor that he is one of the millions who collect the small, table top game based figures.

While appearing on The Graham Norton Show in the U.K., Cavill discussed the upcoming season of The Witcher, and as well as being deeply involved in the fantasy genre in his work, whether playing Superman or The Witcher’s Geralt, he has made no secret of his love for Warhammer miniatures. Norton happily took the opportunity to poke fun at the geeky hobby, which at one time was probably one of the least cool pastimes to be involved in, and while regular fans of the one-time comedian’s show, this is nothing unusual and just a bit of banter between the host and his guests, who normally take it all in good humor.

However, Cavill’s fans didn’t see the funny side and immediately aired their grievances via social media, where it was picked up and reported by U.K. newspaper, Metro. Many comments didn’t believe that Norton’s comments were warranted, with one suggesting it was “incredibly distasteful way to talk about someone’s hobby on a televised show.”

While his fans were quick to jump to Cavill’s defense, the actor himself didn’t seem bothered at all by the jibes, and there is no reason why he should. As well as successfully bringing characters to life on the big and small screen, Cavill has also spent a lot of time on his social media accounts sharing his hobbies with his many fans and followers. This has included him posting a video on Instagram of him building a gaming PC in a post that has gained over 1 million likes since it was posted in July 2020. In the post he also revealed that he much prefers playing games on PC as opposed to consoles like the PS5 because he father encouraged him into the hobby of assembling PC’s and playing on them as a child.

Like most chat show hosts, Norton is not new to criticism of his interviewing style and the way he often is found mocking celebrity hobbies and fandom in general, with him occasionally finding pieces of fan art linked to his guests on line and then making a joke of it during the show. While this is nothing more that Norton’s comedy-style approach to his interviews, which has held him in good stead for many years now, it is clearly not to everyone’s taste, and especially for fans of the celebrities that bear the brunt of his jibes, with a vast arena of social media to air their feelings, they are not going to let their idols take the ribbing alone.
