Revealing that they have yet to find a filmmaker or writer for the series, Cavill ends by declaring, “For The Emperor!”

A hugely popular tabletop game, Warhammer 40,000 is set in the distant future, where a stagnant human civilization is under siege by hostile aliens and supernatural creatures. Cavill has revealed many times how big a fan of Warhammer he is, and the property sounds like the perfect project for the actor to lead following his recent departure from Netflix’s The Witcher series and losing the role of Superman in the wake of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s upcoming reboot.

Superman Will Be Rebooted for the DCU with a Younger Actor

Despite Cavill featuring in a cameo as the Man of Steel at the end of this year’s Black Adam, it has now been confirmed that Cavill will not be the Superman of the DCU after all. A revelation that has led to much disappointment from fans. Instead, newly appointed DC Studios co-chief and The Suicide Squad director James Gunn will write a reboot, casting a younger actor as the comic book icon.

“Peter & I have a DC slate ready to go, which we couldn’t be more over-the-moon about; we’ll be able to share some exciting information about our first projects at the beginning of the new year,” Gunn revealed. “Among those on the slate is Superman. In the initial stages, our story will be focusing on an earlier part of Superman’s life, so the character will not be played by Henry Cavill. But we just had a great meeting with Henry and we’re big fans and we talked about a number of exciting possibilities to work together in the future.”

As for Henry Cavill, he still has more than enough on his plate alongside the Warhammer 40,000 series, including the spy outing Argylle, the action movie The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare, and the long-mooted Highlander reboot.
