Man of Steel and Enola Holmes star Henry Cavill has responded to the idea of playing James Bond, Wolverine, or any of the iconic characters he is usually cast as by fans. The actor often finds himself pretty high up on fan casting lists for any comic book character being discussed and is usually the odds-on favorite for the new 007. While the likes of Bond and Wolverine have not yet come to pass, Cavill is flattered by the constant suggestions, though feels that one man should only take on so many beloved roles.
Henry Cavill does already have a few iconic characters under his belt, with the actor starring as Sherlock Holmes in Netflix’s Enola Holmes movie series, Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher series (though that will soon come to a surprising end), and will now reprise the role of Clark Kent aka Superman in the DC Cinematic Universe following a post-credits appearance at the end of Black Adam.
“It is enormously flattering to read those articles that pop up about Bond all the time and who’s the favorite. I enjoy that, of course. But it’s all about how much time I have, and these roles need to be respected and a lot of work needs to be put into them. You can’t just be jumping from iconic role to iconic role with no time to prep for them.”

It’s no wonder why Cavill is always suggested for roles such as Wolverine and 007. With his chiseled jawline and bulky frame, he looks like a comic book character coming to life. And while he is honored to so often find his name next to these characters, Cavill explains to USA Today that he would never commit to them unless he felt he had the time to do them justice.
Henry Cavill Hopes to Play Superman for Many Years to Come
Warner Bros. Studios
DC fans have been crying out for years for the franchise to bring back Henry Cavill as the Man of Steel and, thanks in large part to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, the studio has done just that. Following his brief appearance in Black Adam, reports have stated that a sequel to Man of Steel is now being discussed, with Cavill also expected to appear in further cameos across the DC Cinematic Universe.
For Cavill’s part, he hopes to be playing Superman for the foreseeable future. “It’s so—and I don’t throw this around often, because I think a lot of people throw it around—but it is humbling to be the guy who gets to be the custodian of that character once again and, hopefully for many years to come as long as I do justice by the character,” he said following his return.
Cavill has also promised to alter his Superman slightly in order to create a Man of Steel more familiar to comic book fans. “The character means so much to me. It’s been five years now. I never gave up hope, and it’s amazing to be here now talking about it again,” he said last month. “There is such a bright future ahead for the character. I’m so excited to tell a story with an enormously joyful Superman.”
Even without playing James Bond or Wolverine, Henry Cavill is plenty busy. The actor will play Geralt for the last time in the upcoming third season of The Witcher, as well as starring as an amnesiac spy in Argylle before leading the World War II action flick, The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare.
