Thankfully, Cavill’s luck may be changing once again, with the Man of Steel star already lining up his next major franchise. And it’s one that is very close to his heart. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cavill is now attached to lead and executive produce a serial adaptation of the most popular miniature wargame in the world, Warhammer 40k. Of which Henry Cavill has revealed several times that he is a big fan.

A hugely popular tabletop game, Warhammer 40,000 is set in the distant future, where a stagnant human civilization is under siege by hostile aliens and supernatural creatures. Warhammer drops players into “the grim darkness of the far future, where mighty armies clash on countless war-torn worlds and Humanity stands alone, beset on all sides by the threats of the heretic, the mutant and the alien,” the official description of the game from Games Workshop reads. “There is no mercy. There is no respite. Prepare yourself for battle.”
The property certainly sounds ripe for adaptation and, much like with The Witcher, will have a serious fan as its lead star and behind-the-scenes. While both The Witcher and Superman fans remain disappointed that Henry Cavill will no longer be involved in either of these tentpole projects, perhaps the idea of him in a Warhammer 40,000 series will be enough to take the edge off.
Henry Cavill Has Thanked Superman Fans for Standing by Him
Warner Bros.
After announcing that he was officially back as Superman in the DCU just this October, this week saw the actor once again take to social media to reveal that this is no longer the case. “I have just had a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran and it’s sad news, everyone,” Cavill said. “I will, after all, not be returning as Superman. After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life. The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that. James and Peter have a universe to build. I wish them and all involved with the new universe the best of luck, and the happiest of fortunes.”
The actor thanked fans for standing by him all these years, urging them to look forward to what comes next for the comic book icon. “For those who have been by my side through the years….. we can mourn for a bit, but then we must remember…. Superman is still around,” he added. “Everything he stands for still exists, and the examples he sets for us are still there! My turn to wear the cape has passed, but what Superman stands for never will. It’s been a fun ride with you all, onwards and upwards.”
Henry Cavill will next star in the spy movie Argylle from Kingsman: The Secret Service director Matthew Vaughn.
