The Witcher star Henry Cavill’s genuine love for video games is no secret, and the actor has now chosen his dream adaptation: Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption 2. During a recent discussion with Game Reactor, Henry Cavill was asked which video game he believes is ripe for a Netflix series or movie, and it did not take the actor long to choose…
Released in 2018, Red Dead Redemption 2 is an action-adventure game developed and published by Rockstar Games. A sequel to the first Red Dead Redemption, the game is set in 1899 and follows outlaw Arthur Morgan, a member of the Van der Linde gang. The story sees Arthur dealing with the decline of the Wild West whilst attempting to survive against government forces, rival gangs, and other such adversaries.
“Hmmm… aww, that’s a very good one. Well, that’s a tricky one, ’cause you’re tying both an IP and a company together, which is a tricky thing to do, so I certainly don’t want to put myself in any corners with that, but there are plenty of games out there… I’ve actually started playing Red Dead Redemption 2 — I know I’m a little bit late to that party — but I started playing it and I’m really enjoying it. And so, something like that I think would be fun to turn into a movie.”
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
Much like its predecessor, Red Dead Redemption 2 was met with widespread acclaim, with critics heaping praise on the gameplay, characterisation, vast Wild West world and the complex, intriguing plotting. There is little doubt that, with the right creatives in place, Red Dead Redemption 2 is indeed primed for a movie or serial adaptation. Based on Henry Cavill’s work in series such as The Witcher, and his relationship with Netflix, it’s far from crazy to think that cogs could start turning at the streaming service based simply on the actor’s desire to see it come to fruition.
While the idea of Henry Cavill as a cowboy may be very tempting, he has his hands full right now with monster hunting, returning as Geralt in Netflix’s second season of The Witcher. Picking up with Geralt following the events of the hugely popular first series, season 2 sees the Continent’s kings, elves, humans, and demons strive for supremacy while Geralt reveals some of his mysterious past. The Witcher season 2 is available on Netflix now.
