Since the 1940s and 1950s, sitcoms have been a popular broadcast production usually framing around the likes of a “modern” family. In 2015, CBC Television premiered a little show called Schitt’s Creek, which became one of the funniest modern day sitcoms of today. The series finds itself in the rankings as one of the most streamed shows on Netflix and boasts an array of awards, including two Golden Globes. The father-son duo, Eugene and Dan Levy, serves as the show’s creators, executive producers, and are a part of the lead acting ensemble.

The series finale of Schitt’s Creek aired in April 2020, leaving fans with the happy ending they so eagerly yearned for. Viewers said their goodbyes in the same way in which they were introduced to the characters. In true Schitt’s Creek fashion, there was comedy, chaos, and a twinge of dramatic flare. Yet since the show’s farewell, Dan Levy has teased fans with the possibility of a Schitt’s Creek movie. As a result, here’s 5 reasons why there definitely needs to be a Schitt’s Creek movie.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

Reuniting with The Roses

The very first introduction of the Rose family is that of them getting evicted from their mansion after it is revealed that head of household, John, was defrauded by his business manager. The scene is absolute chaos. The family is clamoring for all that they can grab while trying to comprehend what is happening and why. In the midst of being evicting, they learn that the only item that they will acquire from their assets is a small town that was purchased as a joke for their eldest son David. The series shows the highs and lows of the Roses as they attempt to escape the town of Schitt’s Creek, but in the end they find that the home they always needed was in that same very town.

After six seasons of watching the pitfalls of their failed escapes, it would be nice to see the Roses settled into their new life whether that be in Schitt’s Creek or as visitors. From what the audience knows, David and Patrick stayed in town after their wedding to continue running Rose Apothecary. As nice as it would be to step into the town square one more time, there would be nothing sweeter than seeing the family reunite after some time has passed.

Returning to Schitt’s Creek

Although the Roses are undeniably the true core of the show, there are many other beloved characters who reside in Schitt’s Creek as well. In the last shot of the series, Johnny asks the driver to stop as him and Moira are departing. He peeks out the window and looks at the town sign, smirks, and it is revealed that he had the sign updated to show the Rose family. If Johnny, Moira, and Alexis return to the town, it would allow for not only the Roses to be together again, but also to be reunited with their former neighbors. It would be interesting to see Roland and Jocelyn interact with Johnny and Moira, especially when you throw the idea of a baby into the mix. Alexis would be able to update Twyla on all the latest New York City gossip. Not to mention, a peek at how many more businesses Ray has acquired since the family departed.

Exploring David and Patrick’s Family Dynamic

Schitt’s Creek is more than just a sitcom. It is a pillar of hope and embraces the idea of change while welcoming the ability to grow. Every member of the Rose family grows in their own. Alexis learns that she doesn’t need a partner to be happy, all the while David learns that he is worthy of love. The siblings learn that their bond is eternal, and that their parents, despite their selfish nature truly their love their children. At the series’ close, we say goodbye to Johnny and Moira, but are filled with joy that David finally received his very own happily ever after.

Dan Levy stated regarding a Schitt’s Creek movie, “I’m very sort of sensitive to overstaying your welcome in any capacity. So we’ll see in a few years, if it all sort of comes together.” A lot of shows on air today over stay their welcome with their fans. It is always best to leave on high note, but would a Schitt’s Creek movie be possible? Seemingly enough, the best way to bring these beloved characters back to the screen would be through David and Patrick. Obviously, the Roses will be back to the town being that their son and Johnny’s business partner Stevie reside there. However, the only way it would really be possible is to explore the family dynamic of David and Patrick, and to see if the pair decided to start a family or grow their business.

A Little Bit Alexis in New York

There would be nothing more delightful than seeing Alexis Rose navigate the world as a New York City publicist. Out of all the family members, Alexis grew the most. She went from the entitled, spoiled child to a young woman who wanted to make her way in the world on her own. She learns selflessness, love, and what lengths a true friend will go to. However, it would be comedic gold to see her work with other clients of Interflix while representing her mother.

Stevie Budd: Dignified Business Woman

Stevie Budd runs the motel for the majority of the series, until she becomes business partners with Johnny and Roland. Stevie, always so afraid that she would end up like her aunt, sunken and withdrawn from the world, breaks out of her comfort zone and reaches bounds she never thought she would. Easily one of the most relatable characters, Stevie struggles with having the confidence to know that she deserves better. Which is something she and David both share. During her performance in the town’s production of Cabaret, Stevie sings “Maybe This Time” during which she breaks down in tears. A Schitt’s Creek movie would allow fans to finally see Stevie flourishing in the business world and taking frequent visits to other cities to grow the motel business. It is clear that Dan and Eugene Levy poured their heart and souls into the show. Is a movie necessary? Not exactly. However, there is no doubt that the fans of Schitt’s Creek wouldn’t mind an invitation to a Rose Family Reunion.
