Hulu has been releasing some downright great content at a breakneck pace, so all the other streamers need to take cover at this point (aside from Apple TV; fans need that final season of Servant badly). In an imperfect world where apps have common technical errors and never-ending freeze screens, Hulu has risen to become one of the best streaming services since its inception in 2008, due to the service’s variety of content, accessibility, add-on options, bundle deals, recording features and access to so many channels and global options. For those nights when falling asleep after work becomes too common during weekdays and DVR is needed, Hulu has viewers backs. Plus, the screen never freezes, giving it a hard leg up in the streaming wars.
An extensive run-down on Hulu’s attributes and what makes them great would devour some time, time which could instead be spent watching and talking about their great original programming. The company is the Neiman Marcus of streaming these days, from acclaimed shows like Ramy to Oscar-nominated films like The United States vs. Billie Holiday dominating critics’ lists. With the popular and critically lauded Pam & Tommyreleasing episodes weekly on Hulu, check out some of the channel’s greatest originals.

7 Dollface
hulu
There’s something about Dollface that just reels you in. Jules (Kat Dennings) is dealing with personal trauma after her longtime boyfriend breaks up with her. (Seriously, who would break up with Kat Dennings?) Jules is ultimately learning to rejoin the world as a single woman, mending former friendships and moving forward with her life. Though it hasn’t been as critically acclaimed as many other Hulu shows, based on its popularity, it’s safe to say that Jules is not alone

6 How I Met Your Father
Hulu
Hulu’s How I Met Your Father, sequel to CBS’s beloved How I Met Your Mother, pinpoints the difficulties of finding love in a day and age where one-night stands and hookups plague the entirety of romance. Set in the heart of New York City, Sophie (Kim Cattrall) tells her now adult son the story of how she met his father back in the year 2022. In a digitalized society, past Sophie (Hilary Duff) attempts to live in the moment instead of obsessing on finding her future partner. Why Sophie can’t just marry Jesse already may be frustrating in a traditional will-they-or-won’t-they kind of way, but the show picks up the momentum of How I Met Your Mother and runs with it in a truly endearing way.
5 Only Murders in the Building
A classic whodunit, the mystery-comedy series Only Murders in the Building follows Oliver (Steve Martin), Charles (Martin Short) and Mabel (Selena Gomez), three strangers who live in the same Upper West Side apartment building and have a common interest in true crime. Suddenly caught up in an actual crime mystery, with the death of a fellow neighbor, the trio team up to uncover the truth in this sleuthing comedy. Apparently watching every Law & Order episode instantaneously qualifies you to become a detective, so update your resumes.
4 Mother / Andriod
Mother / Android is psychologically terrifying, especially when dealing with subject matters tied to world chaos, motherhood and war. Sam (Algee Smith) and Georgia (Chloë Grace Moretz) are two young college students, not to mention expecting parents, fleeing from danger in the midst of a war with artificial intelligence in this fascinating Hulu original which also serves as a great allegory for both immigration and adoption. Warning, if you do decide to watch, go out and purchase a box of tissues ahead of time, because tears will be shed and that’s okay.
3 Vacation Friends
Vacation Friends is a seriously funny and raunchy comedy that tells the story of two couples who later become friends while on vacation in Mexico. Marcus (Lil Rel Howery) takes his girlfriend Emily (Yvonne Orji) on vacation to propose in a thoughtfully planned out romantic gesture. Once in Mexico, they run into super lit married couple Ron (John Cena) and Kayla (Meredith Hagner), who take Marcus and Emily on one heck of a ride in one of the funniest films of 2021.
2 Light As A Feather
Light As A Feather details a spooky Halloween night where four popular high school girls invite McKenna (Liana Liberato) for a night out together. Things start to get weird when she suggests that they play a game of ’light as a feather, stiff as a board.’ After this, however, each of the girls begin to die in the order the game was played in this creepy testament to why black magic is just not okay. It’s also a great look at the difficulties of being a teenager, and contains some genuinely creepy atmosphere, making it one of the most underrated horror dramas of recent years.
1 Run
You might look at your mother differently after watching Run. Chloe (Kiera Allen) had to be going through it at home, because her mother fell way off the deep end. Diane (Sarah Paulson) has been controlling Chloe since the poor girl was born. She can’t leave the house or hang out with friends and oh, by the way, her mother is drugging her. Once Chloe musters up the mental strength to tell Diane that she’s completely delusional, everything goes downhill in this extremely unsettling film with yet another masterful performance from Sarah Paulson. The movie quickly became Hulu’s most-watched film in just its opening weekend, and deserves its place amongst the streaming giant’s best originals.
