It’s a testament to the longevity of Mean Girls that it continues to be relevant to the struggles and experiences of young people navigating the teenage world of high school. The film follows Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan, in one of her best teen movies of all time) as she moves from Africa to the U.S. and quickly has to adapt to the difficult social dynamics and politics of American schools. Cady finds her way into the popular clique of the school headed by Regina George (Rachel McAdams), which is initially an experiment, but she soon becomes caught up in the social ladder of her new school. The film was directed by Mark Waters and written by Tina Fey who also starred.

Mean Girls featured a hugely talented cast of actors, many of whom have enjoyed successful careers since the film was released in 2004. From McAdams’ climb to the top of Hollywood’s most sought-after actresses to Lohan’s upcoming Christmas movie comeback (not to mention her recent message that we’ve saying her name wrong for years), the cast gone on to bigger and better things. Here’s where the cast of Mean Girls is today.

Lindsay Lohan (Cady Heron)

Lindsay Lohan starred as the main character, Cady, who experienced a culture shock after she moved from Africa to the USA and experienced the schooling system and the teenage social dynamics that have to be carefully navigated. Before Mean Girls, Lohan was already a huge Hollywood name and had become a teen idol. Her career continued to thrive after she starred in the hit teen movie, appearing in major commercial successes like Just My Luck and Herbie: Fully Loaded as well as starring in critical hits such as A Prairie Home Companion alongside Meryl Streep and Georgia Rule alongside Jane Fonda. Lohan took a break from acting after relocating to Europe; however, she recently announced her return to the US and acting, and is scheduled to star in an upcoming Netflix Christmas film

Tina Fey (Ms Norbury)

Tina Fey wrote Mean Girls, and she played Ms Norbury, a teacher at North Shore High who becomes a target of The Plastics’ Burn Book, which spreads unfounded rumors about people. Fey’s success continued after her participation in the movie, when she created and starred in the hugely successful show 30 Rock as Liz Lemon. The series ran for seven seasons and earned her an Emmy Award. She also starred in many successful movies such as Baby Mama, Sisters, and Wine Country. She also commissioned a Broadway version of Mean Girls, which ran from August 2018 to March 2021. Fey has continued to be a force in comedy, and her career shows no sign of slowing down. Most recently, Fey lent her voice acting talents to Pixar’s Oscar-nominated film Soul.

Rachel McAdams (Regina George)

Rachel McAdams played Regina George, the leader of The Plastics, and became a very familiar face in 2004, which saw her land her role in the iconic The Notebook alongside Ryan Gosling, which was another hugely successful film. After this success, her career picked up majorly, and she would appear in films such as Wedding Crasher, Doctor Strange, and Game Night. She quickly became a household name and one of the most in-demand actors in the industry. In 2016, she received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Spotlight, a film which detailed real-life stories from sexual abuse victims at the hands of the church. Her career has been on the up since her days in Mean Girls, and will likely keep growing. Next, McAdams will be appearing in the highly anticipated MCU movie Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, wherein she’ll not only reprise her role of Christine Palmer, but is also rumored to be playing Clea Strange.

Amanda Seyfried (Karen Smith)

Amanda Seyfried played Karen Smith in Mean Girls, a member of The Plastics who was the comical relief of the film. Her career would also blossom after the success of the movie, particularly when she landed the lead role in the Mamma Mia! franchise alongside Meryl Streep, which became a huge success and really put her in the international spotlight. She also appeared in hugely successful films like Jennifer’s Body, Dear John, and Les Misérables. She would eventually receive an Oscar nomination for her role in Mank, which was a biographical drama about screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz.

Lacey Chabert (Gretchen Wieners)

Lacey Chabert starred as the third member of The Plastics, Gretchen Wieners, who was constantly competing with Regina and became stressed with life as a Plastic. Chabert has continued to enjoy a steady career, appearing in films such as My Secret Valentine and Christmas in Rome. She has also succeeded as a voice actress, with roles in Kung Fu Panda: The Paws of Destiny as well as Transformers: Rescue Bots.

Lizzy Caplan (Janis Ian)

Lizzy Caplan played Janis Ian, an antagonist to The Plastics who schemed with Cady and best friend Damian to take them down. Caplan found continued success in the world of TV, landing roles in successful shows such as New Girl and Party Down. She also appeared in Masters of Sex from 2013-2016 and starred in films such as Cloverfield and The Interview.

Jonathan Bennett (Aaron Samuels)

Jonathan Bennett played the love interest who caused a rift between Cady and Regina, Aaron Samuels. He found continued success in moves such as The Haunting of Sharon Tate in which he starred opposite Hilary Duff, as well as TV shows like Awkward and Hit the Floor. He was one of the few members of the actual film to revive his character for Ariana Grande’s “Thank U, Next” music video which recreated lots of scenes from Mean Girls.

Daniel Franzese (Damian)

Daniel Franzese played Damian, who was best friends with Janis Ian and helped with her plot of taking down The Plastics. After Mean Girls, most of his work was on TV shows such as CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and GLOW. In 2013, he became an art curator, moving away from Hollywood life.
