The series centers on an orphan named Lyra, played by Logan star Dafne Keen, who heads out in search of her missing friend. She soon discovers a kidnapping plot, a dangerous secret involving the rebellious Lord Asriel and the authoritarian Marisa Coulter, and finds out that she is the subject of a witches’ prophecy that she will change the world, with everything linked by an invisible cosmic substance called Dust. Lyra is set on a collision course with our world and a teenager named Will, who is himself being pursued by figures connected to his vanished father.
The third season of His Dark Materials picks up with Will, the bearer of The Subtle Knife, and Lyra, the prophesied child, as they travel through multiple worlds to find and protect each other. All while Lord Ariel begins putting together a multiversal army and sets his sights on an all-out war with the Authority.
