Hocus Pocus 2 is bringing back the Sanderson sisters this Halloween, but talk of a third movie has already begun. Original franchise star Bette Midler is reprising her role as Winifred, and will be joined by her Hocus Pocus co-stars Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy, who return for the sequel as Winifred’s magical sisters, Sarah and Mary respectively. When it comes to possibly coming back to Salem for another round of spooky magic, Midler seems to be more than willing to give it a go if the chance came around.
Hocus Pocus was a reasonable hit in 1993, but it has grown in popularity over the decades to become a cult classic and a must for the Halloween season. Now, against all expectation, the original Sanderson sisters are going to bring mayhem to Salem once more in a Disney+ bound exclusive that is sure to be one of the biggest attractions Disney+ has to offer for those looking for a spooky treat. When asked about potentially returning for Hocus Pocus 3, Bette Midler told EW:
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
“I don’t know. I’m envious of other actors who have franchises, and I was hoping for a sequel to First Wives Club, but we never got that. After 30 years with no sequel to Hocus Pocus, I’ve always been envious of people who get to do their favorite character more than once. The fact that we got to do this finally, after 30 years of promoting the idea, I’m glad we got to do it. I’d love to have a franchise — especially a character I love playing. If there was a third one, of course I’d sign on, but I don’t know how. I can’t imagine what the story would be, but I love Winifred, Sarah, Mary, and our relationship. It’s good for women. We stick together through hell and high water, but we do cause mayhem, and not many women cause that much mayhem!”
Hocus Pocus 2 Sees Doug Jones Reprise His Role As Billy Butcherson
Disney+/EW
Along with the return of the three Sandersons, Hocus Pocus 2 will also see fan-favorite Billy Butcherson coming along for the ride, once again played by Doug Jones, who has been thrilled to make his unexpected return. Although the sequel doesn’t see any of its young cast members returning, Doug Jones recently recalled hearing talk of a sequel almost a decade ago and was happy to be part of it.
Hocus Pocus 2 will premiere on Disney+ soon.
“The fans have been rumbling about it forever. But I was at the 20-year anniversary screening of Hocus Pocus nine years ago at the Disney lot. One of our producers, David Kirschner, was there talking with my makeup artist, Tony Gardner, and they were conversing about the sequel that they were pitching to the studio. That’s when I realized, “Oh, it might actually happen,” and then here we are nine years later, finally.”
