House of the Dragon has been full of VFX shots and CGI galore, and the crew responsible for crafting the world of Westeros through computer technology has been hard at work on the series. Whether it’s wide shots of King’s Landing and Dragonstone or getting up close and personal with the many dragons featured in the series, the work done by the VFX artists has been tremendous.
However, during the first season’s third episode, some eagle-eyed fans noticed something strange going on with King Viserys, played by Paddy Considine, in one particular scene. The Kind hands a letter to a soldier; if you look close enough, you can see his fourth and fifth fingers are green. It’s assumed that the post-production team was meant to replace his fingers with a digitally altered look, however, someone missed that memo after filming the scene. According to reports from Variety, HBO plans to fix the mistake and update the episode on HBO Max. However, a Twitter user captured the moment before the correction, sharing the screenshot with fans.

Fans of House of the Dragon will remember King Viserys has cuts on his body from the Iron Throne, and by the second episode, he has sliced his finger open, using maggots to heal his wound. It’s presumed we were intended to see the results of these accidents in episode 3, but this particular scene showed a far more practical shot.
Game of Thrones Made Similar Mistakes During the Shows Run
Shows such as Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon are bound to make mistakes. Unfortunately, the heavy amount of VFX work involved with the fantasy series makes it difficult to catch everything, and one Game of Thrones mistake went down in history. The infamous Starbucks coffee cup from Season 8, Episode 4 of the HBO drama caught fans’ attention when it premiered, as audiences bashed the crew for their lack of awareness.
Last month, House of the Dragon showrunner Ryan Condal claimed the crew hunted down Starbucks cups on set. “[It was] a very heavily policed set — there was lots of Starbucks-hunting going on.” However, they didn’t plan on hunting green screen fingers. Nevertheless, the VFX glitch found in House of the Dragon was a blink-and-you-miss-it moment, and should be no indication of the quality of the CGI and the artists involved with the series.
House of the Dragon premieres on HBO and HBO Max every Sunday at 9 pm E.T., so tune in to follow the Targaryen dynasty as they head toward the inevitable Dance of the Dragons.
