Andor’s seventh episode, “Announcement,” was an emotional one. It follows Cassian to jail in the fallout of his rebel heist. But he’s not imprisoned for what you think. Episode seven takes us back to Ferrix, deep into Coruscant’s high society and into the octagonal cubicles of Imperial bureaucracy. Andor seemed safe for once after he ran from the group of Rebels with whom he stole all those credits. He returned to find his mother but instead found the unexpected consequences of his robbery. Because it wasn’t a robbery at all but an “announcement.”

Andor returns home to find his mother so inspired by the event, she refuses to leave Ferrix and instead wants to stay to fight the Imperial occupation. Andor seems to have strengthened both sides in this battle as more people stand up, and the Empire pushes hard against them. In this episode, we get an update on Dedra Meero, who has also turned the tide in her career battle, which can only mean bad things for the Rebellion. We also get a look at Mon Mothma’s more personal life. As Luthen Rael scores a big victory with his Imperial heist, Mon Mothma steadily becomes more at risk. Again, we get a look into the real people that make up the Rebellion in Disney’s Andor.

Andor has made it far away from the planet of Aldhani, where he and the other freedom fighters managed to steal a lot of money. But when he returns home to Ferrix, his mother tells him it isn’t safe to stay. He finds his hometown occupied by Imperial soldiers and old friends unwilling to trust him. He tells his mother he has found a lot of money but mentions nothing of the heist. He tries to get her to agree to leave, and at first, she does, and he goes off to check in with his old friend Bix.

Andor finds Bix wounded and weak when she opens her door. And she tells him that everyone in the town is willing to turn him in. The people saw his explosive exit and blame him for the severe Imperial control looming over the town. He tells her he is leaving and returns to his mom. Once he is ready to go, his mother tells him she will refuse to leave because she is tired of the Empire. She mentions that she heard about the Rebels’ success on Aldhani, and now she wants to join them here on Ferrix. She is so impassioned that she lets her son leave, but not before telling him to stop searching for his sister, explaining that it’s a futile effort.

Andor decides to leave anyway and ends up beachside on a lovely planet called Niamos. He has a private room with a beautiful woman and plenty of money. As he gets some out of his stash, which he hides in a box above the shower, he tells her he’s going for a walk. There, some people run past him as they’re chased by stormtroopers. As he changes his path, he accidentally walks right into one of them and is arrested for “looking around too much.” He tries to explain that he is just going to the store, but no one believes him, and the Imperial Magistrate sends him to prison for six years.

The Hunt Is On for Andor

Mon Mothma was uninformed of the heist on Aldhani. She shows up at Luthen Rael’s shop of cultural artifacts unannounced and expresses her displeasure. She talks about how risky such a big operation was and how the Empire will only respond with force. Luthen sees this as a good thing. He wants to escalate the conflict.

He says that the Empire has been too quiet for too long, and now that they are willing to tighten their grip, it will inspire a greater pushback from the people. Mon Mothma worries about how people might get hurt, but Luthen is willing to take those risks.

Later, Mon Mothma attends a party with an old school friend of hers. They speak in subtleties while Mon Mothma wonders if she can trust him with information about the Rebellion. Eventually, he hints at his political disposition, and Mon Mothma decides to bring him into her plans.

Meanwhile, Dedra Meero has a confrontation with her career rival. He points out she has operated outside of regular Imperial procedure. But the results Meero got from doing so forego any punishment and is rewarded for her efforts. She is congratulated but told to watch her back in the same breath.

Syril Karn is reluctantly shoved into an Imperial cubicle farm. And Vel meets with a mysterious woman on Coruscant to report on the heist’s success. She mentions that Andor has taken his cut and run off. And the woman tells Vel to find him and kill him.
