Spoiler Warning: Big Sky Season 1 & 2
In season 2 of Big Sky, Cassie Dewell (Kylie Bunbury) and Jenny Hoyt (Katheryn Winnick) reunite once again to solve a series of crimes taking place around a small county of Montana. With Jenny now a part of the local town’s police force and Cassie taking the lead as an external private detective, the two routinely come together to find the whereabouts of Ronald Pergman (Brian Geraghty), a vicious convicted killer and kidnaper, along with learning the details of an emerging drug ring.
Based on a series of novels by C.J. Box, season one of Big Sky dives into Cassie and Jenny’s personal and professional journeys as the two join forces to search for two sisters who have been kidnaped at the hands of a high ranking sheriff and abductor, posing as a local truck driver on a remote highway. Once Cassie and Jenny discover that these are not the only girls who have also disappeared in the same area, the experienced detectives place their personal issues aside to stop the men before other young women meet the same fate. This is what we’ve learned so far about season two, currently airing on the ABC Network.

Cassie and Jenny Have Grown Much Closer
ABC
Jenny Hoyt is the wife of Cody Hoyt (Ryan Phillippe), a private investigator killed once his investigation further developed. He uncovered a massive human trafficking operation in the local Montana area. Cassie Dewell, also a private investigator who worked closely with Cody, developed an intimate relationship with him during the time they worked together. Although the two were greatly at odds initially (even coming to physical blows at one point), once Cody was killed, the women came together through their grieving processes.
Jenny, Cody’s estranged wife, began to struggle with her marriage once she found out Cody cheated on her with Cassie (his colleague) while the two were separated but still together. When Jenny confronted Cassie about the relationship, Cassie made it vocal that she believed their marriage was over. At one point, Cassie went to a bar where Jenny was drinking to make it clear that she genuinely thought the marriage between her and Cody was done before anything progressed between them. The two then got into a brawl after Cassie wanted Jenny to punch her in an attempt to resolve any tension.
After finding Cody’s body, Jenny and Cassie make it a point to finish Cody’s impending work related to the abduction case. Around the same time, Jenny’s son comes to his mother after notifying her that his girfriend and her sister are currently missing. They later find that the girls were taken by state trooper Rick Legarski (John Carroll Lynch) and truck driver Ronald Pergman (Brian Geraghty).
We see Cassie and Jenny do more than place their differences aside in season two and become close friends. Not only do the women confide in each other with relationship woes, but they also aid each other with any work cases they might need a hand with.
A Missing Package Brings New Enemies
After a group of kids finds a bag filled with cash left in the local park, they run away with the money in an attempt to keep it for themselves. It isn’t until Ren (Janina Gavankar), the daughter of a drug lord, comes into town on a quest to locate the money that she comes to find the kids are the ones to take it. Although Ren can possess vicious qualities at times, she drags her feet in causing harm to the children and their families due to the possible problems that could follow if any action is taken. When her dad notices that it’s taking longer than usual to get the job done, he sends Ren’s little brother Jag (Vinny Chhibber) to quickly locate the money or take care of the person associated with having it at one point.
Ronald is Miserable
For most of season two, Ronald and Scarlet (Anja Savcic) are kidnaped by Rick Legarski’s twin brother, Wolf Legarski (John Carroll Lynch), along with his wife Merrilee (Brooke Smith). Wolf holds the two captive in an attempt to reform them from their criminal ways, secluding Ronald and Scarlet from the rest of the world. Living on the ranch, they are regularly chained up and forced to abide by the rules of the house.
Ronald, who is miserable on the ranch plots to escape, and does at one point (where he kills Cassie’s father), but Wolf later brings him back to the ranch where he plans to kills Ronald once and for all (so that he wouldn’t be able to unleash more carnage into the world). Wolf’s character analysis is distinctly different from Rick’s because he appears to be making it his mission in life to undo all the evil his brother has unleashed into the world. In a way. Wolf looks at Ronald as a way to reform him, something he wasn’t able to do for his brother, leading to his death.
With season two of Big Sky soon coming to an end, the state of the show has picked up in an extraordinary way. Compared to season one, the level of character development and emphasis on providing context to each of their backstories, along with the emergence of new and eccentric characters that come into town, is setting a tone for an exciting and thrilling remainder of the season.
