On Tuesday night, Margot Robbie became the youngest person to receive a BAFTA: A Life in Pictures tribute. The British Academy of Film and Television Arts honored the 32-year actress and producer for her work in the film industry. Hosted by Director of Film at the British Council Briony Hanson, the retrospective focused on six of Robbie’s films: The Wolf of Wall Street, I, Tonya, Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, Mary Queen of Scots, The Suicide Squad, and Damien Chazelle’s Babylon, which premieres next month.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Robbie told the audience how starring in I, Tonya lead her to a realization that opened up another door:

She then decided that she was ready to reach out to one of her idols. That idol was director Quentin Tarantino. Working with him, Robbie added, was a “bucket list thing.”

“I, Tonya was the first time I watched a movie and went, ‘OK, I’m a good actor.'”

Tarantino and Robbie went on to collaborate for Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, with Robbie taking on the role of Sharon Tate. Further discussing Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, Robbie also shared that she carried out a scene from the film in real life once the film premiered:

“I just went there and watched it on a random Tuesday afternoon and sat in pretty much the same seat,” she said. “I had pretty much the same experience [as Tate in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood], even down to the fact that the person I bought the ticket off was like, ‘but you’re in the movie,’ and I was like, ‘I know’.”

Robbie began her career in her native Australia appearing on the series Neighbours from 2008 until 2011. She later relocated to America, and in 2011 starred in the short-lived ABC series Pan Am. She rose to stardom following her appearance in 2013’s The Wolf of Wall Street.

Robbie went on to appear in films including Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey, Terminal, and Bombshell, among others. Behind the screen, Robbie and her husband, filmmaker Tom Ackerley are co-founders of LuckyChap Entertainment. The production company has produced several movies including I, Tonya and Promising Young Woman, as well as Netflix’s Maid and Hulu’s Dollface.

Besides Babylon, Robbie will also appear in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, portraying the titular character. Plot details for the film, which has generaed a lot of buzz, remain mostly unknown, but the film is scheduled for release on July 21, 2023. Robbie has been nominated for two Academy Awards for her performances in I, Tonya and Bombshell. There is plenty speculation that Babylon will bring the actress another nomination.
