You are in the right place if you’ve been a fan of Child’s Play. The first season of the Chucky TV series reached its conclusion only to immediately set up the next new chapter for this long-running killer doll franchise.

Since the late ’80s, there have been non-stop variations of this franchise, even after the attempted reboot almost derailed the entire thing. Now that the series has officially been renewed for another season, Don Mancini, the series creator, has some crazy plans in mind for what could happen next. That, along with the season 1 finale’s storyline being so open-ended, we can see it going in any possible direction.

Let’s dive into the season 1 finale of Chucky and see how it sets the stage for season 2.

Setting the Stage for Season 2

As fans who have watched the entire first season of Chucky and also the seven original films, you know that the TV series has been piecing together plots and characters from all of them. In fact, the first of the season was mainly spent on setting up all the new characters as well as the new town and exploring Charles Lee Ray’s backstory.

On the other hand, the second half brings back legacy characters from all the feature films and heavily follows the ending from the 2017s Cult of Chucky as it continues its open thread plots in the series.

In particular, the season finale does reveal Chucky’s main plan – to corrupt innocent people and make them commit murder. This would let him to split himself further into multiple bodies, thus allowing him to possess more than 70 Good Guy dolls.

Jennifer Tilly, who is possessed by Tiffany, announces that she will be gifting these Good Guy dolls to a different sick child across the country. We see in the final episode that rather than finding the delivery guy she hired to send these dolls across, we find Andy Barclay, the original Child’s Play hero, stealing the truck and driving away with all these possessed dolls into the dark.

But nothing can be that simple, right? At the moment when it seems he will actually get away with it, it is revealed that Tiffany’s second vessel – her iconic doll counterpart that was seen at the end of Cult of Chucky – is sitting in the back seat pointing a gun at him and making him drive off to an undisclosed location.

Elsewhere, Jennifer Tilly, Tiffany’s human counterpart, has been up to no good either. After developing a liking for Nica, who’s still partially possessed by Chucky and is trying hard to fight him off and regain control of her body, she amputates Nica’s legs and arms so that she has no means to move, walk, or even retaliate. It is a horrifying sight to watch, and we can’t even think what sort of condition she will be in during season 2.

As for our main three teenagers, the trio is alive and doing well. We find them visiting the graves of Bree, Logan, and Junior, who all passed away throughout the first season. However, the three are aware that they have made lasting connections with each other and whose story no one else will ever understand. This includes Miss Fairchild, their teacher, who watches the three from afar. Similarly, we also see another person watching the group, but it’s unclear exactly who it is. All we see is their gloved hand clutching a nearby tree before the scene ends.

A Finale with Loose Ends

The season may have come to an end, wrapping up a lot of storylines. However, it also brought several new plots at the front. With the countless Chucky dolls, Tiffanys, and several other characters in different states of trauma, it is pretty clear that the storyline in the second season can go virtually anywhere. Nonetheless, we are still eager and excited to see what’s in store next for season 2.

Chucky season 2 will most likely release later this year or early next year. However, no official release announcements have been made yet, nor has the production begun for the new season.

You can watch Chucky season 1 on Peacock.
