Spoiler Alert: This story contains minor spoilers for Glass Onion by revealing the details of Hugh Grant’s cameo.

Rian Johnson’s Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is now streaming on Netflix, garnering high scores with critics and audiences alike. In addition to the film’s strong ensemble cast, the sequel also has notable cameos from several other stars. One moment that many viewers enjoyed was the special appearance from Hugh Grant, with the actor playing a surprise character for one of the film’s more amusing moments.

In the scene, Helen Brand (Janelle Monáe) comes to Benoit Blanc’s (Daniel Craig) apartment looking for the detective. She’s greeted at the door by Blanc’s husband, revealed to be Grant. It was revealed prior to the film’s release that Blanc is gay, but Grant’s cameo had been unannounced, making it a fun surprise for him to appear in this role.

Speaking with Collider in a new interview, Grant opened up on his cameo. He is amused by playing the husband of James Bond, referring to Craig’s legendary run as 007. Grant also admits that he doesn’t know why they wanted him in particular for the role, but based on how much he enjoyed the first Knives Out, he agreed to take the small part. From the interview:

“It is true, I’m married to James Bond… It’s the tiniest little moment. I don’t really know why they wanted to do it but anyway, I thought Knives Out 1 was brilliant, and so yeah, I thought why not? I turn up for a few hours…”

Will We See More of Hugh Grant in Glass Onion 3?

     Netflix

Writing has started on Knives Out 3, though nothing has been revealed about the plot of the threequel. Of course, we can presume Daniel Craig will return as Benoit Blanc, likely joined by another ensemble cast of popular Hollywood stars. But given his relationship to the detective, Grant could potentially have another appearance in the third movie. The actor seems happy with his cameo in Glass Onion, making it seem likely he’d be up for coming back for part 3 if Johnson writes him into the screenplay.

Meanwhile, Grant can also be seen in a key role in the upcoming movie Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. That film features the actors as part of another ensemble that includes names like Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Rege-Jean Page, Sophila Lillis, and Justice Smith. That film will hit theaters in March 2023.
