When it comes to Marvel’s Wolverine, as of this point in time, there is only one name that comes to mind, and that is Hugh Jackman. It is only fitting then that everyone’s favorite on-screen version of the character has paid tribute to Isaac Bardavid, the writer, actor and voice actor best known for providing the Brazilian voiceover for Jackman’s Wolverine in the X-Men movies, who passed away on February 1st at the age of 90. The nonagenarian’s grandson revealed at the end of January that Bradavid had been taken to hospital due to emphysema.

Bradavid’s passing was marked by Jackman, who shared a video of himself with his Brazilian Wolverine counterpart on his Instagram account. He wrote, “Isaac Bardavid. What a legend. What a life and legacy. What a voice!! #Wolverine #Brazil “Don’t be what they made you.” #logan Rest well my friend.”

The video shared by Jackman is a reminder of the many unsung actors and actresses who help bring some of the biggest movies to non-English speaking countries. Without the likes of Bradavid, there would be many countries that would not be able to keep up with any of the world’s popular Hollywood franchises, much less the smaller independent movies that quietly tag along with the mega-budget blockbusters.

Bradavid Provided a Voice For Many Iconic Characters Over His Long Career

Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1931, Bradavid was known for roles in Tocaia Grande,Carrer del Mar and 2012’s King David. Although he was prolific as a screen actor, his greatest achievements were in voiceovers and his work has stretched far beyond his many times voicing Wolverine in numerous X-Men movies, a run that ended with Jackman’s final turn as the superhero in Logan. Following the 2017 action movie, Bradavid said that voicing the character had been his favorite role.

Apart from Wolverine, the list of characters Bradavid has given a Portuguese voice includes Freddy Krueger in A Nightmare on Elm Street, Skeletor in He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, Commissioner Gordon in Batman: The Animated Series, Deep Throat in The X-Files, and Dr. Eggman in the Sonic the Hedgehog cartoons. Of course, with such a history of much-loved characters, it was only natural that many fans would take to social media to express their own sadness at the news of his death.

“Our condolences go out to the family, friends, and fans of Isaac Bardavid, who has passed away. Isaac dubbed Hugh’s voice in Portuguese for many movies. Hugh met him during a promotional visit to Brazil for Logan in 2017. RIP, Sir. #hughjackman #isaacbardavid,” one wrote. Another added, “Brazil just lost the voice of Eggman, Wolverine, Skeletor. Isaac Bardavid, thank you so much for your charisma and put your soul into the characters you voiced. RIP.”

January has so far seen several deaths of some loved and long-standing actors and actresses of the entertainment industry. With Bradavid’s passing, movie fans have lost another legend, and our thoughts are with his friends and family at this time.
