Major Marvel news has just been announced, courtesy of Ryan Reynolds. On Twitter, Reynolds shared a video noting that it was “hard keeping my mouth sewn shut about this one.” In the video, Reynolds then addresses the absence of Deadpool 3 news at D23 before dropping a major bombshell.

“Hey, everyone. We’re extremely sad to have missed D23, but we have been working extremely hard on the next Deadpool film for a good long while now,” Reynolds says. “I had to really search my soul on this one. His first appearance in the MCU obviously needs to feel special. We need to stay true to the character. Find new depth and motivation, new meaning. Every Deadpool needs to stand out and stand apart.”

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

The actor adds, “It’s been an incredible challenge that has formed me to reach down deep inside, and I… have nothing. Yeah. Completely up here. And Terrifying. But, we did have one idea.”

At this point, actor Hugh Jackman can be seen casually walking by in the background as Reynolds nonchalantly asks if he wants to reprise his role as Logan one more time for Deadpool 3.

“Hey Hugh. You wanna play Wolverine one more time?” Reynolds posits.

“Yeah, sure Ryan,” Jackman responds.

This wasn’t the only major news to come from the video. At the end, it was also announced that the film will be coming to theaters in 2024. It has been officially given a release date of Sept. 6, 2024. While that puts us at about a two-year from this point for the threequel, it’s a major step forward for the anticipated movie that has been stalling quite a bit with its pre-production.

Marvel Has Been Very Supportive of Deadpool 3

Of course, no plot details have been divulged for Deadpool 3, but the inclusion of Jackman’s Logan is already enough to make the film a must-see. The screenwriters, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, have also stated that Marvel has been very supportive of their vision for the new movie. That should assuage some concerns fans may have had that the filmmakers wouldn’t be permitted to maintain the spirit of the previous films, which even comes with an R rating.

“It’s almost like putting on a comfy old sweater,” the writers said of developing part three, via DiscussingFilm. “Marvel’s really given us the support to maintain the tone and the vision that we have for it. They’ve been very hands-off and supportive, but they’ve also let us do what we do. So really, it’s just been fun. We’re mad scientists back in the laboratory again. Deadpool is our favorite who will always be the character I think we’re most associated with, and we’re very grateful for being allowed to write him again. So it’s a blast. It’s like going back to school again after having summer off. It’s pretty fun.”

Deadpool 3 will be released in movie theaters on Sept. 6, 2024.
