In April 2021, Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. season one was released for streaming on Hulu to critical acclaim. Ever since, fans of the stop-animated series have been clamoring for a second season, but mum’s the word over at the Disney-owned streamer about whether one is coming or not. However, with the recent rumor that a new Punisher series starring Jon Bernthal is currently in development at Hulu, the odds of a second season are looking even brighter.
Could the adult animated series get a sophomore season? There’s no official word, but two of the actors who appeared on the series – Ben Schwartz, who voices M.O.D.O.K.’s son Lou, and Sam Richardson, who voices Gary Garoldson, one of M.O.D.O.K.’s A.I.M. minions – have confirmed that they’d be game to return to voice the characters, stepping from the pages of the most recent X-Men #8 by Gerry Duggan (who was specifically inspired by Blum’s version of the infamous Marvel Comics’ villain), Javier Pina, Marte Gracia, and Clayton Cowles, back onto the small screen.

Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. (and his family band) was originally part of a lineup of four adult animated shows that were to be produced by the now-defunct Marvel Television, culminating in a Defenders-style team-up series, The Offenders. However, two of the other shows, a Howard the Duck series from Kevin Smith and the inexplicable Dazzler & Tigra team-up, were canceled during development. Aside from M.O.D.O.K.’s first season, only one season of Hit-Monkey made it to streaming on Hulu. But the first season of Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. featured a star-studded cast, including Patton Oswalt in the title role, Aimee Garcia as M.O.D.O.K.’s wife Jodie, Melissa Fumero as their daughter, Melissa, Jon Daly as the Super-Adaptoid, Wendi McLendon-Covey as Monica Rappaccini, and Jon Hamm as Iron Man.
Speaking with popculture.com, Richardson said that while he hasn’t received any official word about the entire cast reuniting beyond X-Men #9 by a possible second season for Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K., he’d be more than willing to put on the black-and-yellow “safety” suit once again (disclaimer: A.I.M. uniforms may not be considered “safe” by OSHA standards).
“Everybody in the cast is a genius. It was such a fun thing to play,” Richardson said. “I don’t know if there’s going to be a second season. At least, I haven’t been made aware of one.” Schwartz confirmed that he hadn’t heard anything about another season of Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K., either: “If it’s going to happen, it has not been a green light yet,” said Schwartz. “But to be a part of anything Marvel is like a dream for me, and I’m assuming for Sam as well. I mean, we are people who love that world.”
M.O.D.O.K. Lives!
Hulu
For MCU fans who also love that world and can’t get enough of M.O.D.O.K. and his family, there may yet be fresh material to explore (in addition to X-Men)! For one thing, there’s the four-issue series, written by Oswalt and Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. co-creator Jordan Blum, called M.O.D.O.K.: Head Games. As the well-verse can guess from the rock song-themed subtitle, this series carries the flavor of the Hulu series… and better yet, for the continuity-obsessed, it even explains how the animated series relates to the M.O.D.O.K. of Earth-616.
And that’s not the last appearance of M.O.D.O.K.’s “perfect” TV family. Blum has been writing Spider-Bot, a scrolling WEBTOON-style Infinity Comic that’s available to read for subscribers to Marvel Unlimited, and episode #3 features a guest appearance by both patriarch M.O.D.O.K. and his figure-skating daughter, Melissa! The creator already said on Twitter that he has plenty of storyline planned for a second season of the series, some of which would focus on Melissa’s sexuality. Blum already confirmed that he hoped to explore her bisexuality in a second season of the series.
Even if M.O.D.O.K. and his family do not appear on-screen in the Marvel universe, hopefully, they will continue to make appearances in the panels of Marvel Comics! But just as M.O.D.O.K. deserves to keep his family and take over the world, this reporter remains hopeful that’ll we’ll get more of the Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing on both the page and the screen… and there is always the Ant-Man rumor.
