Hunter Schafer is making her way to theaters with her new horror film, Cuckoo. The movie is helmed by Tilman Singer, behind projects such as Luz, El Fin Del Mundo, and The Events At Mr. Yamamoto’s Alpine Residence. Cuckoo will be the director’s second crack at the horror genre after the 2018 project, Luz, which was generally well-received from critics but became forgettable with audiences. Nevertheless, the film won several awards across various festivals, including the horror features category at Austin Fantastic Fest, Best Picture at the Fractured Visions Film Festival, and the Fantastic Fest.
According to NEON, Cuckoo has officially wrapped filming, and the entirety of the film will be shot on 35mm. The plot has been kept under wraps by Neon and the crew, however, fans are receiving bits and pieces of information more frequently. In addition, an official image from the film was released today, which can be found on DiscussingFilm’s Twitter below:

In the first image, Schafer’s character is a little banged up, with a bandage covering her forehead, an arm brace, and an ominous figure waiting for her in the background. In addition to the Euphoria actress, Cuckoo will feature Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey), Jessica Henwick (Love and Monsters), and Zita Hanrot (Love, Death + Robots). Singer will also write the film, with Thor Bradwell, Markus Halberschmidt, Ken Kao, Josh Roseumbaum, and Maria Tsigka producing. Jeff Deutchman, Ryan Friscia, Tom Quinn, and Emily Thomas serve as executive producers.
Cuckoo is set to hit theaters sometime in 2023.
Hunter Schafer is Becoming a Big Name in Hollywood
HBO
Hunter Schafer made her acting debut as Jules in HBO’s Euphoria, a massive success. The series went on to win numerous Emmys and catapulted Schafer into the national spotlight. She would later co-write and co-executive produce a special episode for Euphoria, which would be nominated for Best Writing for a Drama Series at the International Online Cinema Awards.
Her work was recognized; earlier this year, she was cast in the upcoming Hunger Games spinoff, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. The feature film is based on the novel of the same name, written by Suzanne Collins. Schafer will play Tigris Snow, cousin of lead Coriolanus Snow. The character appeared briefly in the original Hunger Games trilogy, however, she will have a much more significant role in the forthcoming film.
The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is currently in pre-production and expected to land in theaters sometime in the holiday season of 2023. If both films stick to their current timeline, next year will be a busy time for Hunter Schafer.
