Prime Video’s Hunters is coming to an end. Back in early 2020, Hunters premiered its first season one Prime Video, and the David Weil-created series was given a renewal for season 2 that summer. Progress had been slow on getting to season 2, but after a long wait, the new episodes are finally set to premiere on Jan. 13, 2023. However, ahead of the premiere, it has now been confirmed (via Variety) that Hunters has been canceled and will end with its upcoming second season.
The first season of the series features an ensemble cast led by Al Pacino that also included Logan Lerman, Jerrika Hinton, Josh Radnor, Kate Mulvany, Tiffany Boone, Greg Austin, Louis Ozawa, Carol Kane, Saul Rubinek, Dylan Baker, and Lena Olin. It was recently reported that newcomers for season 2 include Jennifer Jason Leigh, as a Nazi hunter while Udo Kier will be playing Adolf Hitler.

Hunters is a series about Nazi hunters in the 1970s who learn that Nazi war criminals are trying to create a Fourth Reich in the United States. Taking on such sensitive subject matter has not been without its controversy, and it’s resulted in some mixed opinions from those who view the show. But that doesn’t mean that Weil held back with taking the same creative risks with the second and final season.
Hunters Season 2 Will Take the Same Risks as Season 1

“This is what the show is meant to be, right?” Weil told Entertainment Weekly. “It’s meant to spark conversation, it’s meant to raise awareness, it’s meant to take viewers on a ride, and most of all, it’s designed to be disruptive. It’s designed to showcase characters in ways that you have not seen them before. I take such pride in that, there is such opportunity in that — and also danger. This show is a massive risk. We always knew that. So I think you will see that same Hunters spirit, that same ferocity, that same risk taking, that same noisy, mischievous storytelling in season 2.”
The series was renewed for season 2 back in 2020, but it hasn’t been until now that fans have learned that the second season will also be the last for Hunters. It’s not entirely clear if Weil learned about the cancelation before finishing work on season 2, though he has suggested that the series will deliver a “satisfying” payoff after introducing Adolf Hitler into the story.
“For me, as a kid growing up on Long Island, being Jewish, there was always this frustration and anger that Hitler got away with his crimes, that he was never brought to justice, he was never arrested, killed, tried, that he made a decision at the end of his life,” Weil explained, hoping that the events of season 2 will bring some catharsis for others who feel the same way.
He added, “I would only ever invoke Hitler if we’re going to deliver justice in some hopefully satisfying way.”
Season 2 of Hunters will hit Prime Video on Jan. 13, 2023.
