I Am Groot is available to stream now on Disney+, and fans are excited to see the beloved character in five animated shorts centered around the tree. The series promises to be a set of very low-stakes adventures as Groot lands himself in several predicaments throughout the show. The project was confirmed to be canon by producer Brad Winderbaum, and the shorts will be set in the downtime between Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 and the post-credit scene from the same movie when Groot becomes a teenager.
Vin Diesel reprises his role as Groot, while Bradley Cooper makes a brief cameo as Rocket in one of the episodes of I Am Groot. In addition, James Gunn, director of Guardians of the Galaxy and EP of the series, makes an appearance voicing the character known as Wrist Watch. Kirsten Lepore serves as head writer, director, and executive producer for I Am Groot, joined by Brad Winderbaum, Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, and Victoria Alonso in the EP position.

The entirety of I Am Groot is available to stream, a departure from their live-action shows, which generally receive weekly releases. This isn’t a surprise, as each episode clocks in at a slim 5 minutes, with the series run-time being shorter than most episodes of their high-budget series. You can check out the release announcement Tweet from Marvel Studios, which includes brief clips from the series, below.
Kirsten Lepore Reveals the Involvement Vin Diesel Had with I Am Groot
Marvel Studios
Vin Diesel has been a part of the MCU since Guardians of the Galaxy premiered in 2014. However, some fans may be unaware of his role as he doesn’t have much to say and is constantly hidden behind the computer-generated tree. ‘I am Groot’ are the three words that the Fast and Furious star has become known for within Marvel’s shared universe, and he returned to I Am Groot to give the performance of a lifetime.
During an interview with Collider, I Am Groot creator, director, and executive producer Kirsten Lepore shared Diesel’s involvement with the show’s production and his importance in reprising his role when the studio could have used his lines from previous projects.
Fans are happy to know that Vin Diesel takes the role seriously enough to reprise it for a few animated shorts. They should be excited to see his performance as the titular character in I Am Groot, available now on Disney+.
“Yeah, it was interesting. When we initially wrote them, we thought, “Oh, it’s just ‘I am Groot.’ How hard could it be? Let’s maybe take some existing recordings we have from Guardians and put Vin in there.” But, like we talked about with the script, each line really does have its own infliction. So, we ended up needing to do a whole record just for the shorts, and I’m so glad we did because once Vin got in the room, he just nailed it. He would just watch one for the first time and then just run through the whole thing and give us so much personality in each of them. So, it was fantastic to have the luxury of recording with him on these.”
