“At the core, this is a story about overcoming the greatest odds imaginable in the name of family, love and justice. This is David vs. Goliath on steroids. Taking on the U.S. military, one of the largest, most powerful institutions in America is no easy feat. In making the film, it was incredible to witness a family, in the most tragic moment of their lives, put their grief aside, step out into the public arena and fight for the greater good.” said director Christy Wegener.

“I’m proud & honored to represent Vanessa Guillen, Vanessa Guillen’s family, & thousands of brave soldiers & their patriotic families,” attorney Natalie Khawam wrote on Twitter.

“I will continue to fight for victims, our military & all those who need & deserve a voice in this world. Netflix, thank you!” added the director.

“The Guillen family has been an inspiration to me. They are a testimony of strength dignity and the power of love family and community,” said actress Salma Hayek.

Guillen allegedly saw a picture of the wife of a fellow soldier on Robinson’s cell phone’s lock screen, and he told her" he was worried about getting in trouble for violating the Army’s fraternization rules since Aguilar was still married to another soldier" and he hit Guillen in the head with a hammer according to a document from the Texas Department of Public Safety

Robinson killed himself when police were trying to arrest him. A second suspect was arrested and accused of aiding Robinson in dismembering Vanessa’s remains. She was the girl on Robinson’s cellphone’s lock screen, Cecily Anne Aguilar who was reported to be Robinson’s girlfriend.
