When it comes to Disney hit songs, Encanto may have broken records with its Lin-Manuel Miranda-written soundtrack, but one song still towers over all others as one of the most recognizable songs of the last two decades of Disney movies; Frozen’s “Let It Go.” Idina Menzel has been performing the iconic track live in concert for almost a decade, and it has made her regret making one change to the song when recording it. She told CNN:
“I knew it was a real accomplishment and a great get to be a Disney princess, to be welcomed into the Disney family and be in a musical, I knew that that was pretty epic, but I had no idea it would become the phenomenon that it did. So, I came in once and I sang it and I came back another time, because they had written another part to it and they changed some of the lyrics. I realized that I felt like my voice sounded too mature, in order to really embody this young woman that you see in the movie, so I asked them to take it up — I don’t know why I did that, because when I’m in concert all over the world and I have a cold and I just want to kill myself. [Laughs] But I asked them, “Let’s take it up a half-step and see,” because then it sounds a little bit more innocent in my voice, a little younger. As I was watching it just now, I was thinking, “Jeez, what was I thinking there.” But, I’m glad, because she sounds a little younger and little bit more vulnerable.”
Disney Fans Still Want Frozen 3, But Will It Happen?
Walt Disney Pictures
Frozen became an instant Disney classic when it was released in 2013. Now approaching its 10th anniversary, the franchise has produced a sequel and several short films centering on its lovable snowman Olaf. However, it is now coming up to four years since Frozen II arrived in cinemas, bringing with it another stunningly crafted story and musical-worthy soundtrack, but despite fan demands, there has been no word on whether there will be a Frozen 3.
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
In recent months, many of the original cast members including Menzel, Kristen Bell, and Josh Gad have all made it clear that they would be ready to go as soon as the call came to make another movie, but with such a high bar to meet, it is not surprising that nothing is being rushed into that could tarnish the reputation of the franchise. The issue that Disney now have is being able to deliver a story that is worthy of telling, and a soundtrack that is instantly as iconic as the previous two movies and that is a tough ask.
The easy route would be to continue to put out occasions short stories as companion pieces to the franchise and avoid another sequel entirely. Whether fans will allow the idea of Frozen 3 to melt away though, is another thing entirely.
