Indiana Jones 5 has had a pretty rough run when it comes to its filming schedule, from Covid delays to Harrison Ford’s shoulder injury, but it looks like they are finally ready to wrap on Ford’s final run out as the intrepid adventurer. Early in January director James Mangold updated his Twitter account with an estimate that there was around one more month of filming to go. We are now 40 days on from that post, but today the movie’s producer, Frank Marshall, shared an image of the outside of Pinewood Studios and commented that they were “in the home stretch.” Of course Pinewood has been the home of the movie’s production when not filming on location, so it would suggest that the remaining shots required will be all recorded within the studio itself.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

There have been a lot of rumors about what the new Indiana Jones movie will be about, from more alien encounters, to time travel and many other wild theories. From the images and videos shared from the set, there are certainly a lot of locations and set pieces involved in the film, with a return of Jones’ Nazi foes in some form, stunts having been recorded on board a train, and many shots of Harrison Ford all set up for a spot of de-aging. All in all, it certainly feels like an Indiana Jones movie, even if it will be the first one without franchise director Steven Spielberg.

At the time of James Mangold’s appointment as the new director, it was revealed that he was personally chosen by Spielberg to take over the helm of the movie. While this was unsettling for some fans, Frank Marshall’s involvement, as someone who produced Raiders of the Lost Ark back in 1981, Kingdom of The Crystal Skull and has also had a hand in the Jurassic World franchise, helped ease the nerves as the husband of LucasFilm president Kathleen Kennedy certainly has all the blockbuster credentials an Indy adventure needs.

Indiana Jones 5 Has Had a Very Long and Troubled Production With Many Delays

Despite being in active production since 2019, Indiana Jones 5 is yet to have its actual title released. After some changes in scripting personnel back in the summer of 2019, the original plan was to shoot the movie in 2020 and release the following year. Of course, that didn’t happen. What did happen was the loss of Steven Spielberg as director, along with writer David Koepp, who claimed the movie had been held up so long due to disagreements over the storyline after he left for a second time, and another hefty delay due to the Covid shutdown.

The movie has now been filming since June last year, and a near nine-month shoot seems unbelievably long for any movie these days, but with Harrison Ford out of the action for a couple of months due to a shoulder injury, a large portion of the crew being forced to isolate due to Covid outbreaks and further on/off restrictions being littered throughout, the making of the movie has just taken much longer than anyone anticipated and for that reason was recently pushed back again in the Disney schedule to a Summer 2023 release.
