Imagining that the world around us is manipulated on a daily basis by mysterious forces outside our control is a terrifying concept. However, the Netflix original series Inside Job, created by Shion Takeuchi (Gravity Falls, Regular Show), allows audiences to laugh at the often unsettling notion that conspiracy theories are true. Whether manipulating the weather or making the President of the United States do their bidding, the rag-tag group of Cognito, Inc. employees has their hand in every facet of our lives. This animated adult show is rife with raunchy humor and surprising real-life references.

It was recently announced that Inside Job would return for a second season. Given the surprise ending of the initial run of episodes, this announcement has been highly-anticipated, and the show will undoubtedly have a lot of material to work with. Reagan Ridley (Lizzy Caplan), a tech whiz with a bitter disposition, will continue to control the world while being seemingly incapable of managing both her own life and the wild antics of her eccentric coworkers. Will she succumb to the pressure, or will the operations of Cognito Inc., and therefore, the world, continue to spiral out of control?

Here’s what fans can hope to see in Inside Job season two.

More Conspiracy Theories and Mythological Creatures

Conspiracy theories are essential to the plot of Inside Job. In the first season, there were references to myriad different government plots and mysterious people. For example, the infamous, seldom-seen Bigfoot makes a brief appearance, walking past the office of Brett Hand (Clark Duke). The head of HR at Cognito Inc. is a bona fide Mothman. And at one point, Reagan finds herself at an elegant soirée for reptilian overlords. When the second season returns, there will definitely be more outlandish theories discussed. Given the nation’s increasingly conspiratorial discourse, the show’s creators will have no shortage of material to draw upon.

Though Bigfoot has already made a brief cameo, is it possible that other mythological creatures could appear? Reagan could be sent on assignment to Scotland to track the Loch Ness Monster or travel to the bottom of the sea to make peace with the titan Cthulhu. Maybe she’ll be tasked with doing a census on the current unicorn population or make her way to Transylvania to have a chat with Count Dracula.

Additionally, the show could choose to poke fun at more contemporary conspiracy theories. However, they will need to take care to tread lightly around the more sensitive aspects of these ideas, some of which are widely held in certain communities. For example, there has been a lot of talk surrounding the Pizzagate conspiracy. Though there is a lot of tragic news surrounding it that would not be appropriate to joke about, the fact that many Americans have a genuine belief in reptilians is perfect comedy fodder.

More Information About the Mysterious Shadow Board

Though it seems that Cognito Inc. represents the apex of national power, its employees are under the command of an organization known as the Shadow Board. Though little is known about the group, no plan is pushed forward without their approval, making them functionally the most influential individuals in the Inside Job universe.

The Shadow Board will be an essential part of season two’s plot, as they were responsible for reinstating Ridley’s father as CEO of Cognito Inc. She will want answers and possible revenge. If Ridley remains as efficient and cunning as she was in the previous season, the Shadow Board had best keep their distance.

Ridley’s Struggles With Her Newly Minted CEO Father Rand

Rand (Christian Slater) was the former CEO of Cognito Inc., and as he has the most shares in the company, the end of season one saw him once again filling that seat. This came as a complete surprise to audiences, which for most of the season believed Rand to be a feckless booze hound.

Having her father as a boss will not sit well with Reagan. The two have a strained relationship, which could possibly mean that he will send her off on the company’s most unpleasant assignments. Rand is no stranger to having a high-powered role. If Reagan tries to remove him from his position, his paranoia, coupled with his deep-seated knowledge of manipulation, will make that a near impossible task.

It should be the goal of any comedy series to make folks laugh about the things that are generally taken seriously. Inside Job has been established deeply irreverent, which allows the show’s creators to poke fun at theories ranging from JFK’s shocking assassination to the notion that the Earth is flat. More conspiratorial comedy is yet to come, and the ever-harried Reagan will likely be worse off for it.
