Willem Dafoe finds himself trapped after a heist gone wrong in the newly released trailer for the upcoming psychological thriller, Inside. Released courtesy of Focus Features, Inside is very much the Willem Dafoe show, as he finds himself isolated and driven insane — the kind of situation that Dafoe should relish in portraying. You can check out the new trailer for Inside below.

As you can see from the footage, Inside tells the story of Nemo, an art thief trapped in a New York penthouse after his heist doesn’t go as planned. Locked inside with nothing but priceless works of art, he must use all his cunning and invention to survive.

The trailer has been released alongside several posters for Inside, which spotlights some of the items that will no doubt haunt Dafoe as he attempts to survive all by himself — including a pigeon that is sure to become his best friend and only company. The posters are wonderful in their minimalism and helpfully let us know that the images depicted are not, in fact, of Willem Dafoe.

Inside marks the feature film directorial debut of Vasilis Katsoupis, whose only credit up to now is for helming the 2016 documentary My Friend Larry Gus. Inside will find Katsoupis working from a script written by Ben Hopkins, who is best known for the likes of The Nine Lives of Tomas Katz, Marionette, and the upcoming biographical drama Limonov: The Ballad of Eddie starring Ben Whishaw.

Giorgos Karnavas, Marcos Kantis, and Dries Phlypo are on board Inside as producers, alongside Executive Producers Jim Stark, Vasilis Katsoupis, Konstantinos Kontovrakis, Charles E. Breitkreuz, Martin Lehwald, Jean-Claude, Van Rijckeghem, and Stephen Kelliher.

“It’s a dream to have made this film, the way we wanted to, having the privilege to work with Willem and all these amazing filmmakers that supported us,” Inside director Vasilis Katsoupis said in a statement regarding the project and working with Academy Award nominee Willem Dafoe on his first feature. “Focus is the perfect place for the film, and we can’t wait to share it with the world.”

“With ‘Inside,’ Focus continues our commitment to first-time and international filmmakers,” added Focus Features president of production and acquisitions Kiska Higgs, before heaping praise on Katsoupis’ debut and the contemporary themes of Inside. “[Director] Vasilis’s thought-provoking film explores an experience we’re all now familiar with – isolation – and explores it in a visually stunning way.”

Before being left far too alone in Inside, Willem Defoe has several projects currently in the pipeline. The actor recently did battle with Christoph Waltz in the Western, Dead for a Dollar, and is due to reprise the role of Nuidius Vulko in the upcoming DC sequel Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Dafoe is also due to reunite with frequent collaborator Wes Anderson for Asteroid City, which drops audiences into 1955 as students and parents from across the country gather for scholarly competition in a fictional American desert town.

Inside is scheduled to be released in the United States on March 10, 2023, by Focus Features.
