An update has come in on the live-action Invincible film. In previous years, creator Robert Kirkman has been trying to get a movie made based on his hit comic book series, and the live-action adaptation will be unconnected to Prime Video’s animated series. The status of the planned film has been unclear without many fruitful updates in a while, but Kirkman says in a new interview with ComicBook.com that the project has not been shelved.

According to Kirkman, the Invincible movie is in active development, though it’s also noted that said development has been rather slow. Kirkman says that movies take longer to develop than TV shows, which could be why there’s already been three seasons ordered of the Prime Video series without any major progress on the feature film. The good news is that the success and continued popularity of the animated series will only help get the gears turning on the movie as well, as Kirkman teases.

Kirkman teased more about the film in previous interviews. At Comic-Con@Home in 2021, he said how the goal will be for the movie to be very much different compared to the animated series, making it have its own feel, while staying faithful to what Invincible is about. But we’ll still just have to wait and see what he means by that without the movie yet starting production. As Kirkman said at the time:

Meanwhile, the animated series recently had an update arrive for its own upcoming second season. After the first season debuted in 2021, fans have been waiting ever since for a release date. It was just recently revealed that season 2 will finally be premiering on Prime Video in late 2023, though an exact date has yet to be announced. A third season has already been greenlit and is also in the works.
