Marvel’s Iron Fist wasn’t quite the critical darling that other shows in the DefendersVerse had been, and series star Finn Jones is reflecting on what went wrong. The fourth series to be featured as part of Netflix’s slate of Marvel shows, Iron Fist came into the scene under a lot of pressure by following Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage. Season 1 arrived just in time to introduce Jones’ titular superhero to audiences before he crossed over with the other superheroes in the crossover series The Defenders.

Speaking about the series with the Geekscape Podcast (via The Direct), Jones suggests that the high expectations coupled with scheduling conflicts played a big part in season 1’s negative reviews. He says that because Netflix was pressuring them to finish their first season quickly to rush out The Defenders, the creative team didn’t get the time they needed to come up with something satisfactory. As the actor explains:

Finn Jones Feels the Series Was Getting Better

     Netflix/Marvel

While the audience score was respectable at 71%, season 1 of Iron Fist sits at a rotten 20% at Rotten Tomatoes. Comparatively, while season 2 had mixed reviews, they were significantly better than season 1, jumping to 55% on the Tomatometer (with a 62% audience score). Jones also suggested that the series was getting better by the end of season 2 as the show’s team had figured out what was working and where to go for season 3, but soon after, the Netflix slate had been wiped of its Marvel shows.

With Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio returning for the upcoming series Daredevil: Born Again at Disney+, the possibility is always there we could one day see Finn Jones return as Iron Fist. With that said, there are no concrete plans at this time to bring the character back. For now, you can stream the show’s two seasons on Disney+.
