Are Lord of The Rings Spin-Offs Really a Good Idea?

Although the series is moving into its second season, The Rings of Power has proven that anyone attempting to expand the world Tolkien developed all those years ago will have to please the enormous fan base of the books first and foremost. While there have previously been suggestions of movies based on popular characters like Gandalf, Aragorn, and Gollum, to name a few, the real question is whether they are needed, or will everyone quickly become bored of the rings, as the title of one of many Tolkien parodies once proclaimed.

Currently, the fantasy genre is in one of its biggest resurgences, thanks in part to the rise in streaming platforms looking for long-form stories to tell, and the advancement in technology that has allowed studios to bring whole new worlds of wonder to life in a way that would not have been possible a few decades ago. Whether this means that fans want to see an endless procession of new shows and movies based in Middle Earth is something we probably won’t have to wait too long to find out.
