Bam Margera has been put on a ventilator in a local ICU after being hit with a severe case of pneumonia and contracting Covid-19. The Viva La Bam and Jackass star has most recently been spending a lot of time in rehab facilities to overcome drug and alcohol addictions. According to TMZ, the star was rushed to a hospital in San Diego after struggling to breathe. Once in the hospital, he was tested for Covid and found positive. He was subsequently put on a ventilator but is said to be in stable condition.

Margera has been finding it difficult to beat his addictions, particularly struggling to stay sober despite having completed a one-year program recently. Part of his problem led to Bam missing a significant portion of filming on Jackass 4. At the time, Jackass co-star Johnny Knoxville spoke about wanting nothing but for Margera to be “happy and healthy and get the help he needs.” The strain of Margera’s problems was well documented and led to Jackass 4’s director taking out a restraining order against Margera following his removal from the movie. Around the same time, Margera blasted his co-stars and director, saying in a video:

“My family—Jackass—has betrayed me, rejected me, abandoned me. Not all of them. I love all of them and they love me back. But specifically Jeff Tremaine and Johnny Knoxville. So I feel like my family has fcking done everything horrible to me and made me jump on hoops and walk through eggshells—which is impossible—and strung me along like a fcking puppet to get the $5 million I usually get when I make a movie with them because Jeff Tremaine and CKY has started it.”

Some Fans Of Bam Margera Wanted Him “Freed” of his Court-Ordered Rehab

The road to beating addiction had been tough for Margera, and the “Free Bam” campaign did not help his trials. The movement suggested that the star was being forced into rehab and should be allowed to get around his instructed rehab and be “free.” Margera’s wife responded to the campaign, asking those involved to back off after the family began to be threatened. At the time, she wrote:

Margera’s condition currently seems to be serious, but the news that he is stable despite being hooked up to a ventilator will come as welcome news to his fans and family.

“It’s no secret that Bam has struggled with mental health and addiction. You’ve watched Bam grow up and supported him through his ups and downs. Our family has let you into the chaos that is our home, and we want nothing more than to continue this journey together. The ‘Free Bam’ movement has caused confusion and threat to Bam and our families. Although we love sharing our lives with you, some things need to be handled privately, and treatment is one of them. Recovery is difficult and even more so under public scrutiny. Despite rumors, Bam has never been in a conservatorship but rather a temporary healthcare guardianship for reasons not shared with the public. If Bam chooses to speak to this, he will when he is ready. The ‘Free Bam’ theorists have encouraged his exit from treatment, despite their lacking knowledge of the details, his health and well-being. We kindly ask you to respect the process and our family. As our extended family, we ask you to support Bam in his recovery, to stay on track and wish him well with his sobriety. With heart, The Margera Family”
